Black & McDonald is currently seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to join our Service Division in Vancouver, BC! If you are a hands-on, customer service-oriented, and technically inclined professional searching for the opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you.
The Refrigeration Mechanic position is located in Vancouver and reports to the Service Division Manager.
The Refrigeration Mechanic will be a team member with our Mechanical Service Division which is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of ICI (Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial) refrigeration and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems.
This role is a unionized position with local UA516. Responsibilities include the following :
- Perform routine Preventative Maintenance (PM) on refrigeration and HVAC equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration and HVAC systems and equipment
- Read and interpret construction drawings, equipment schematics, and manufacturers specifications
- Compile detailed material and labour take-offs
- Establish, maintain, and communicate up-to-date work schedule
- Troubleshoot, repair, and install refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
- Measure, cut, and install piping using all common joining methods
- Start-up and commission new and refurbished equipment system
- Perform leak checks and document results
- Work with the service team to provide a seamless response to emergency repair calls
- Participate in rotating 24 / 7 emergency on-call schedules
- Ensure safe working conditions are enforced and strictly adhered to in accordance to company policy

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma
- Journeyperson Trade Qualification as a Refrigeration Mechanic registered in British Columbia
- Class B-R : Refrigeration Field Safety Representative (FSR) - (Formerly FSR-RE)
- Apprentices working towards trade certification for refrigeration and air conditioning may be considered for this position
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Several years of experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting and correcting diverse refrigeration / HVAC issues
- Experience with control systems an asset

- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong organizational skills
- Able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues using all forms of communication - email / text / voice
- Follow instructions both written and verbal
- Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customer

- Able to sustain work that may sometimes require long hours working in difficult environments
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards
- Clean Class 5 BC Driver's License and Abstract
- A Criminal Record Check or Credit Check may be required for some specific job sites
- Must maintain active membership in good standing with the Refrigeration Air Conditioning Service & Installation Workers United Association Local Union 516UA
Salary range is in accordance with UA516 CLRA. Total UA 516 journeyperson wage package per hour : $69.49 / hr $77.60 / hr (depending on experience and trade certifications).
