AbCellera is breaking the barriers of conventional drug development to propel antibody-based medicines from target to clinic.
We are a team of scientists, engineers, creatives, and business professionals who believe that advancing science enhances lives.
We have developed technologies to unlock high-value drug targets, including antibody-drug conjugates and T-cell engagers for cancer, and complex transmembrane proteins for indications such as metabolic and endocrine conditions, pain, and autoimmunity.
We are looking for a motivated and talented individual who is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or other relevant field to join our Lead Assessment Characterization team as a co-op or intern for an 8 month term, starting in May 2025.
Your role will support efforts to accelerate the early identification of viscosity risk in antibodies.
While in this on-site position, based in beautiful Vancouver, you will receive guidance and supervision from experienced team members within the Lead Assessment Characterization team.
The internship is designed to offer exposure to real-world projects and the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of antibody-based medicines from target to clinic within Canada.
How you might spend your days
- Learning how to concentrate and formulate antibodies to evaluate their drug-like properties
- Helping to accelerate the application of an additional instrument to measure viscosity at high concentrations
- Exploring antibody properties indicative of increased viscosity risk (such as self-interaction and UF / DF flow rate)
- Learning how to leverage in silico analysis through machine learning to support viscosity risk assessments
- Collaborating with teammates to plan and execute experiments
- Actively contributing to assay development and troubleshooting to better understand the developability properties of potential therapeutic candidates
- Growing your technical skill set and learning new protein characterization techniques
We'd love to hear from you if
- You have some exposure to, or have an interest in learning, how to prepare and characterize protein samples using a range of instruments and techniques such as Ultrafiltration / Diafiltration (UF / DF), analytical chromatography (HPLC / UPLC), capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS), light scattering (DLS), viscosity, or related techniques
- You think critically, are curious, and want to explore new technologies and opportunities to improve antibody characterization workflows and processes
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Structural Biology, or a related field
- You are a creative problem solver and fast learner who believes in teamwork to tackle the most challenging scientific problems
- You are self-motivated and have the initiative and drive to meet goals under tight project timelines
- You have excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills with impeccable attention to detail
What we offer
AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $3,300 - $3,700 per month, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
In addition to base pay, we offer a number of ways to support AbCellerites in maximizing their work-life synergy. You will have a vacation allowance as well as additional days off as part of our company-wide office closures (a real value to all!), and sick leave time while on your internship.
Scientific and technical mentorship is a priority. And you’ll find we prioritize teams and social groups to build community and connections across AbCellera.
