Responsibilities
The Mainframe Infrastructure Metrics Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the observability, performance, and efficiency of our mainframe systems.
This role involves using expertise in observability, performance optimization, and data analysis to maintain efficient operations and identify capacity and performance exceptions.
Qualifications
Observability, Monitoring & Tooling :
Implement and maintain solutions to monitor mainframe performance metrics.
Develop and modify dashboards and alerts to track system health and performance.
Ensure comprehensive visibility into Mainframe operations for quick issue identification.
Performance Monitoring and Analysis :
Monitor mainframe performance using tools like RMF, SmartIS, iZPCA, MICs, and other internal solutions.
Analyze data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and potential issues.
Develop strategies for performance tuning and optimization.
Data Analysis :
Collect and analyze performance data to generate reports and dashboards.
Identify KPIs and develop metrics to track performance.
Present data findings, recommendations, and methodologies to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Collaboration and Communication :
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, development, and infrastructure.
Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
Participate in on-call rotations to address performance and observability issues.
Must-Have Skills :
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Mathematics, Finance, or related field.
10+ years of mainframe systems experience with proficiency in performance management for multi-processor, multi-LPAR, Parallel Sysplex environments using z / OS.
Proven experience in mainframe performance monitoring, observability, capacity management, and data analysis.
Proficiency in Cobol, JCL, DB2, REXX programming.
Strong understanding of batch processing and job scheduling.
Experience with mainframe monitoring tools and performance tuning.
Advanced user of MS Excel (charts, pivot tables, Vlookups, PowerPivot) and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Nice-to-Have Skills :
Experience with Python and / or Java on the mainframe.
Experience with large, highly transactional datasets for insights and organizational value.
IBM SCRT Reporting.
iZPCA product experience (huge plus).
Proficiency in data visualization and dashboard creation.
Strong time management, independent thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
High sense of urgency and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
