SUMMARY :
Merit Services is seeking a Licensed Millwright to join our client’s dynamic team in Mississauga. The Mechanic’s prime responsibility is the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of all baking, packaging, process machinery, and systems, including site auxiliary equipment, in a safe efficient manner.
Experience in the Food Industry is an asset with familiarity regarding Food Safety and audit requirements. The elimination of breakdowns is of prime importance.
The mechanic will report to and provide a daily summary of work to the Maintenance Supervisor / Manager and will be assigned work by the maintenance planner as needed.
This position has a requirement to do some overtime when requested. The mechanic will be an active member of the maintenance team.
This job does not directly supervise anyone but may indirectly supervise an apprentice millwright or production helper on an infrequent basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Performs complex work assignments in the discipline with normal supervision.
- Performs routine work assignments in the following disciplines : electrical, and welding.
- Proactively performs troubleshooting techniques in a logical manner on all equipment.
- Prepares work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (EAM / CMMS).
- Responsible for the Preventative Maintenance (PM) of all site equipment. Specifically, bakery & packaging process equipment.
- Actively supports the PdM function where applicable.
- Maintains all maintenance workshop equipment and tools.
- Sources and prepares parts from stores for use in all repairs, W / O, and PMs.
- Prepare basic dimensioned sketches.
- Reads and understands technical bulletins, manuals, instructions, and blueprints.
- Monitors team performance-seeking opportunities to make performance improvements.
- Participates in all team meetings.
- Communicate and train production staff on mechanical hazards and techniques in maintenance when required.
- Performs changeover of equipment following production schedule.
- Maintain site programs, Lockout, Confined space, Hot-work permit ETC.
- Leader in training of operations personnel in maintenance related programs.
- This position is also called upon to perform other duties not specifically outlined by this job description.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- High school diploma or GED at minimum.
- Technical College or Vocational training an asset.
- Ontario Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) IMM License (433A) required
- Ontario Industrial Electrician License (442A) preferred.
- 3-5 years working experience in an industrial setting would be an asset
- Knowledge of plant and equipment operations
- Ability to organize and plan daily tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a team based environment
- Good mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Available for weekend overtime as production demands require

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- The job varies from heavy to light, depending on assignment.
- A considerable amount of walking.
- Climbing of stairs and ladders.
- Occasional lifting of heavy equipment.
- Working in cramped / awkward spaces.
- Exposure to moderate to high mental stress.
- Exposure to potential hazards owing to the nature and variety of work, including compressed air lines and vessels, high speed automatic equipment, hot glue, ink-jet printing, steam and chemical handling equipment.
