Job Description
Our client is looking for Child & Youth Workers to provide services to children and youth in group homes and community settings in the Mississauga area on a Casual basis.
Candidates will cover shifts as they become available. This is a casual position, so shifts are based on availability. Regular hours per week are not guaranteed.
Candidates can choose shifts that fit into their schedules :
- Day Shifts 7 AM - 3 PM
- Evening Shifts 3 PM - 11 PM
- Overnight Shifts 11 PM 7 AM
JOB DESCRIPTION :
- Provide one on one and group support to clients in foster homes, family homes, group homes, day programs, hospitals, and educational institutions
- Provide support to children, youth, and adults with various mental health diagnoses.
- Support clients in their daily living activities such as, but not limited to, meal preparation, walking (in the community), recreational activities, relationship building techniques etc.
- Support clients with development of life and safety skills and anger management
- Provide conflict resolution, and problem-solving support to clients
- Encourage participation in activity programs.
- Utilize harm reduction practices to de-escalate and stabilize a client when in a state of crisis and / or presenting with high-risk behaviors.
- Ensure that administrative duties are completed within required timeframes.
- Participate in a plan of care as required.
Qualifications
- A Human Services Diploma (i.e., Child & Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Personal Support Worker, Addictions and Mental Health Worker, etc.)
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with ASD, mental health or special needs
- Experience writing incident reports, serious occurrences, report taking, daily logs
- Clinical skills, including experience and ability working with and managing difficult behaviour
- Ability to carry out safety plans and client care plans
- Vulnerable Sector Search within a six month period
- Criminal Background Check
- Child Welfare Check
- Must have certification in crisis intervention (i.e., CPI, UMAB, etc)
- First Aid and CPR Level C required.
- Valid G License and access to a reliable vehicle preferred.
- Ability to work various shifts with minimal notice
