Sessional Lecturer - EDUC 1370U PJ Science & Technology Methods I - Fall 2024

Responsibilities / Accountabilities :

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above.

In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.

The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC.

The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications :

The successful candidate will have a demonstratedstrong potential for excellent teaching contributions in student-centred,inquiry- or problem-based learning environments, with a proven aptitude forteaching at the pre-service and / or K-6 school levels.

• Evidence of an ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment;
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students;
• Excellent organizational skills in order to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments, and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner;
• Evidence of successful teaching, including via appropriately challenging inquiry- or problem-based lessons, at the pre-service and / or K to 6 levels;
• Knowledge of K-6 science & technology education in the Ontario context;
• Evidence of the integration of theories of learning / teaching into instructional practice, including task design and development;
• Evidence of an ability to critically reflect on one’s own professional practice and adapt practices as needed;
• Evidence of teaching that fosters reflection, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, problem solving and independence;
• Openness to new and diverse perspectives for the learning and teaching of science & technology;
• Demonstrated evidence of understanding of how (pre-service) teachers learn and develop;
• Knowledge of K to 6 initiatives and science & technology education in the Ontario context;
• Evidence of a well-grounded understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment;
• Evidence of integration of digital technologieswith instructional practice

Education :

• A Master’s degree in education is required;
• A Bachelor’s degree in science &technology or other relevant area of study is required;
• A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is required;
• A PhD is an asset.

Experience :

The successful candidate demonstrates :

• Successful teaching within the K to 6 classroom context;
• Successful infusion of technologies in practice as purposeful teaching tools for, as, and of learning in the mathematics classroom;
• Demonstrated evidence-based, or research-informed practice;
• Successful teaching experience in a pre-service teacher education program is an asset;
• Experience working within an LMS;
• Experience working in online learning platforms is an asset.
