We respectfully acknowledge the Syilx Okanagan Nation and their peoples, in whose traditional, ancestral, unceded territory UBC Okanagan is situated.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a globally renowned teaching, learning and research university. Consistently ranked among the top 10 public universities in North America, UBC was recently recognized as North America’s most international university.

Founded in 1908, the University opened its doors in 1915. Since then, UBC has been opening doors of opportunity for people with the curiosity, drive, and vision to shape a better world.

UBC is home to over 70,000 students at its Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

UBC transforms ideas into action through innovation. UBC’s motto Tuum Est (It is Yours), has been a declaration of the university’s commitment to attracting and supporting those who have the drive to shape a better world.

As a result, UBC students, faculty and staff embrace innovation and challenge the status quo, placing UBC at the forefront of discovery, learning and engagement.

UBC’s Okanagan (UBCO) campus is an innovative hub for research and learning founded in partnership with local Indigenous peoples, the Syilx Okanagan Nation, in whose traditional, ancestral and unceded territory the campus resides.

With nine faculties and schools, close to 12,000 students and 700 faculty members, the Okanagan campus combines a globally recognized UBC education with a tight-knit and entrepreneurial community that welcomes students and faculty from around the world in British Columbia’s stunning Okanagan Valley.

The School of Health & Exercise Sciences at UBCO offers Bachelor of Health and Exercise (BHES), Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, with a mission to optimize human health, from the individual to the population, through excellence in interdisciplinary teaching, research, and community engagement.

Currently, the School consists of close to 20 faculty and approximately 800 undergraduate students and 60 MSc and PhD students.

An exciting opportunity exists to take on a leadership role at one of the world’s stop universities and at a smaller, growing campus with excellent engagement with the community and broader region.

Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Health and Social Development, the Director will serve as a key member of the Faculty’s executive team with overall responsibility for academic leadership and administration in the School.

The Director will provide visionary leadership, strategic planning, and operational management to achieve the School’s academic, research and community engagement goals.

The candidate will bring a track record of collegial leadership, scholarly eminence, and academic distinction with a demonstrable commitment to interdisciplinarity, research and teaching excellence in kinesiology and / or health science disciplines.

Experience with developing and implementing successful and innovative partnerships with professional organizations, regulators, health service agencies, and government ministries is required.

To align with the School’s investment in advancing JEDI and decolonization initiatives, the successful candidate will bring a track record of meaningful experience in these areas, and a demonstrated commitment to decolonization and Indigenous engagement.

At the rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and ability to direct graduate students, evidence of sustained and productive scholarly activity, and must be willing to participate in the affairs of the School and the University.

At the rank of Professor, the successful candidate will have demonstrated appropriate standards of excellence in teaching, have received wide recognition in their sustained and productive scholarly activity, and participated significantly in academic and professional affairs.
