We are looking for an experienced Senior Tunnel Engineer to join our team in Toronto to turn challenges into sustainable solutions.

You will work closely with a team of experts working alongside our customers on some of North America's most significant projects, particularly, the ongoing Ontario Line South project in downtown Toronto.
The Ontario Line South project comprises civil, stations and tunnel project is one of many contracts to deliver the , a 15.
6-kilometre stand-alone rapid transit line that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition / Ontario Place. COWI is actively executing the design and construction services component of this design-build project for two stations : King / Bathurst and Queen / Spadina.
Your key responsibilities will be to :
- Perform engineering and analysis for the design of tunnels and shafts in soft ground, mixed conditions and rock (initial support and final lining) which will include the use of various tunnel construction methods such as drill and blast, sequential excavation method (SEM), or TBM
- Interpret and organize design results into project documentation such as Technical Memos, Geotechnical Data, Interpretive, or Baseline Reports, or Basis of Design reports
- Manage design tasks within a prescribed budget and schedule requirements
- Prepare standard documents, such as technical specifications, in accordance with applicable design codes
- Characterize and classify ground conditions for different tunneling methods based on geotechnical information
- Communicate design work through the preparation of drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, and instrumentation
- Use tunnel analysis and design software such as FLAC / FLAC3D, Plaxis, Sofistik, AutoCAD, Revit, and others
- Work in multidisciplinary teams for delivery of small, medium, and large-scale Projects

On top of that, you will have :
- A Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or higher (Master’s degree preferred)
- A minimum of ten years of related experience in Underground Construction / Tunnelling, Geotechnical or Structural Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- A registered Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or the ability to obtain registrations in Ontario within 6 months of employment
- A Class 5 driver's licence
- Experience with the design of reinforced concrete structures, ideally underground structures such as subway stations or major civil infrastructure
- Experience with on-site field reviews, shop drawings reviews, and construction methodologies, including field change reviews and RFI’s
- Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals, soil and rock mechanics, structural engineering, and tunneling methods
- Experience in 2D and 3D geo-structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, Plaxis, FLAC3D, UDEC, SWedge, UnWedge, SNAIL or similar programs
- Proficiency in the use of engineering software such as Excel, and Mathcad to efficiently produce engineering calculations
- Knowledge of parametric conceptual designs and the use of programming environments like Dynamo and Grasshopper would be beneficial
- Great communication skills to be able to deliver concise and high-quality technical deliverables
