Sessional Lecturer - EDUC 1308U PJ Mathematical Thinking & Doing - Winter 2025

Responsibilities / Accountabilities :

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above.

In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.

The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC.

Qualifications :

The successfulcandidate will have a demonstrated strong potential for excellent teachingcontributions in student-centred, inquiry- or problem-based learningenvironments, with a proven aptitude for teaching at the pre-service and / or K-6school levels.

Required Skills :

• A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies;
• Evidence of successful teaching, including via appropriately challenging inquiry- or problem-based lessons, at the pre-service and / or grades K - 6 levels;
• Evidence of the integration of theories of learning / teaching into instructional practice, including task design and development;
• Evidence of an ability to critically reflect on one’s own professional practice and adapt practices as needed;
• Evidence of an ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment;
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students;
• Evidence of teaching that fosters reflection, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, problem solving and independence;
• Openness to new and diverse perspectives for the learning and teaching of mathematics;
• Demonstrated evidence of understanding of how (pre-service) teachers learn and develop mathematical knowledge for teaching;
• Knowledge of grades K to 6 mathematics education in the Ontario context;
• Demonstrates an understanding of core content within the OCT accreditation requirements;
• Evidence of a well-grounded understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment;
• Evidence of integration of digital technologies with instructional practice.

Education :

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study is required;
• A Master’s degree in education and / or mathematics is required;
• A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is required;
• A PhD in education or a related relevant field of study would be an asset.

Experience :

The successful candidate demonstrates :

• Successful teaching within the grades K to 6 classroom context;
• Successful infusion of technologies in practice as purposeful teaching tools for, as, and of learning in the classroom;
• Demonstrated evidence-based, or research-informed practice;
• Successful teaching experience in a pre-service teacher education program is an asset;
• Experience working within an LMS;
• Experience working in a virtual environment is an asset.
