- Position Information Position Number P00316 Position Title Customer Service Representative - Campus Store (Kelowna - On-Call) Division / Portfolio Ancillary and Business Services Department / Program Bookstore Location Kelowna Other Flexible Work Options Your Opportunity Under the general supervision of the Retail Services Coordinator, the Customer Service Representative Campus Store provides high level customer service to students, staff and the public;
- handles all functions directly involved in the retail sale of goods; receives and ships material; shelves and prices goods;
- creates displays to effectively merchandise goods; maintains records concerning cost and inventory control; performs general Campus Store tasks;
and performs other related duties in Ancillary and Business Services as required.
- Functions and Duties 1. Provides excellent customer service by developing rapport, building customer confidence, providing accurate information, and helping with product selection;
- demonstrating knowledge of products and inventory; responding to customer questions or issues regarding product features and benefits;
handling customer inquiries or complaints in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
2. Provides cashier duties for the Campus Store; processes cash and card payments; ensures there is an adequate float; counts, records and balances cash;
prints all daily cash settlement documents to include in daily statement of business reports (DSB) and prepares bank deposit.
Follows all cash handling, cash control and point of sale policies and procedures, including always securing both the store point of sale terminals and float in approved method.
3. Contributes to store profitability and maximizes sales opportunities to achieve store targets by proactively identifying sales opportunities and engaging in suggestive selling based on customer cues;
maintains up to date knowledge of product information, sales, promotions, and rewards programs.
4. Performs general retail duties including facilitating the retail sales of clothing, stationery, and general merchandise;
always maintains consistent visual merchandising and housekeeping standards; ensuring that all merchandise displayed is orderly and visually appealing by folding or rehanging clothing, dusting merchandise and displays, reorganizing and restocking products as needed throughout the day.
- 5. Receives all deliveries and verifies against purchase orders for inventory accuracy; communicates any discrepancies in a timely manner to Retail Services Coordinator and / or the General Merchandise Buyer;
- ensures that received deliveries are put safely away in designated locations in a timely manner to eliminate clutter; responsible for shipping and receiving material to and from other campuses;
- preparing internal packing slips; preparing invoices for payment; maintaining records of merchandise distributed to sponsored students and OC staff and that the necessary approvals have been provided;
responsible for picking, packaging and shipping of ecommerce orders.
6. Performs general Campus Store duties by maintaining a clean and orderly workspace and retail floor; taking care of daytime custodial duties not performed by maintenance staff including dusting shelves, polishing glass, wiping counters and workstations.
7. Provides support to both the Retail Services Coordinator and the General Merchandise Buyer; also provides general support for cashier duties, such as processing customer transactions and restocking of products, for other Retail Customer Service Representative staff during vacation, breaks / lunch, busy or emergency periods or as required.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, plus one-year post-secondary education.
Two+ years recent customer service, retail and / or cashier experience required. Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates commitment to retail customer service excellence. Strong customer service skills with ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with internal and external contacts.
- Able to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, students, clients and the general public to ensure optimum customer service levels.
- Sales-driven and goal-oriented attitude; identifies opportunities to improve the quality of services provided by Campus Stores.
- Team player with an aptitude for working in a collegial and collaborative environment.

- Excellent computer skills with proficiency using point-of-sale systems, Microsoft Office, SCT banner and similar complex databases, as well as the ability to generate and analyze reports and to resolve difficulties with computer input and retrieval.

- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
