MacEwan University is seeking an IT Senior Security Analyst for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.
As a senior technical role, this position coordinates the development and support of IT security infrastructure. They identify and implement enhancements that will improve reliability and information security for the whole University.
The IT Senior Security Analyst is a subject matter expert responsible for leading activities related to architecting, installing, configuring, and securing network components, operating systems, software and services.
This position is accountable to the Director, Cyber Security & Chief Information Security Officer.
Key responsibilities include :
- Designing and implementing the University's IT security applications, controls, and procedures.
- Developing and extending the University's security monitoring platforms to provide automated alerts which minimize the daily operational tasks within the Information Security department.
- Working with other areas of IT to improve their security posture through industry best practices and DevOps automation.
- Investigating security issues / alerts in confidence, identifying their root cause, and performing any initial assessments of exposure.
- Managing the IT asset vulnerability management program at MacEwan. This is achieved by ensuring that other IT areas are patching their resources and are properly monitoring these systems.
- Facilitating the Cloud Security Assessment Program which involves reviewing assessments done by potential cloud vendors and bringing any key issues to the Chief Information Security Officer.
- Working with the Directory, Cyber Security & Chief Information Security Officer, systems administrators, network administrators, ITSOC committee members and other IT staff to remediate security issues.
- Contributing to the creation, maintenance and delivery of security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Participating in annual security self-assessment against ISO and / or NIST and other IT audit activities.
- Maintaining your status as a subject matter expert with advanced knowledge and a broad range of skills across all Information Technology areas (Operating Systems, Networking, Software Development and Web Architecture).
- Liaising and co-operating with security professionals from other post-secondary institutions in various industry mailing lists.

- A passion for cybersecurity, knowledge of computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware, and security.
- Experience with various diverse operating systems and platforms such as : Linux, Windows, macOS, networking technologies, Active Directory and LDAP.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
- Information Security certifications such as CISSP, Security+, or GSEC from ISACA, ISC2 or similar body.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
