Purpose
Provides strategic direction and oversight for Retail Risk outside of Canada with particular focus in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Caribbean & Central America, and Uruguay ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives as it relates to the credit risk lifecycle are supported in compliance with Risk Appetite, governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Applies effective relationship building and strategic partnership across the Bank to drive a strong risk culture throughout his / her team and leverage best practices and knowledge sharing across multiple geographies.
- Leads a center of excellence for credit life cycle strategies, providing forward looking analysis and prescriptive recommendations for all Retail and Consumer Finance portfolios.
- Fosters a customer focused culture of teamwork, accountability, strong communication and organizational effectiveness, while helping to evolve management processes and structures to drive productivity and performance.
- Contributes to executing the strategic direction for the Bank by proposing limits and thresholds aligned to approved credit risk appetite, and facilitating retail credit decisions adequately balance risk / return for all retail credit portfolios.
- Establishes and oversees the development and execution of a standardized risk management framework, ensuring appropriate identification, assessment, measurement, and mitigation of credit risks;
and the development of effective decision tools and strategies to manage the portfolio. Works in collaboration with Global Risk Centres to ensure alignment to GRM roadmap across the life cycle, quality assurance, fraud management and credit sciences.
- Ensure credit policies and procedures are designed to balance risk and growth for Retail and Consumer Finance portfolios through ongoing monitoring to key risk measures and provide counsel on opportunities to expand business where appropriate.
- Monthly monitor, analyze and report on country performance trends and results in relation to targets. Consider origination trends and portfolio issues by product, channel, segment, and specific programs as developed from time to time.
Overlay the impact of any political, economic / environmental, and social concerns affecting the business.
Work collaboratively across multiple teams including Products, Sales and Service, Operations, Marketing, both local and in headquarters.
Provide leadership, guidance, actions, and rationale for decisions, through regular communication to manage and promote the risk culture within the organization.
- Participate in functional Steering Committees to ensure major projects and initiatives take into consideration retail risk requirements and practices.
- Directly supports the SVP on all retail credit risk matters related to mergers and acquisitions, including completing due diligence reviews, leading post-acquisition reviews and integration processes.
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates his / her team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vision / values / business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Dimensions / Education / Experience / Other Information
- Fully bilingual Spanish / English
- Portfolio spans 15 countries with a focus on Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Caribbean & Central America, and Uruguay Retail Risk oversight.
- Large and complex regionalization project underway.
- Undergraduate university degree, MBA preferred
- 15+ years of related Risk experience including International experience and experience leading large teams
