Job Summary
TheResidential Support Worker at Phoenix Society is a member of the integratedservices team. In line with the overall purpose of facilitating the capacitybuilding of participants to maximize their community reintegration andsupporting residents who are transitioning out of Federal CorrectionalInstitutions, the Residential Support Worker is accountable for : client supervisionand monitoring, assessing public risk and client needs, client support,community building with Corrections Service Canada, local police and otherexternal partnerships.
Responsibilities : ClientServices
ClientServices
- Support the clients inadhering to the community guidelines set out in both their CSC conditions and ProgramAgreement conditions.
- Support clients withtheir community reintegration plans by maintaining accurate logging anddocumentation as required by the Societyand Corrections Service Canada.
- Build a therapeuticrelationship to support the client in their life skills and goals.
- Support properreporting / documentation and collaboration for : breach of conditions whichinclude but are not limited to : suspected alcohol or drug use;
- clients who latefor curfew and / or do not return home; escalating, unsafe behaviour; emergencymedical situations; client requests to go to the hospital;
and power failures,fire, or other emergency conditions which require staff supervision orconsultation.
Administration
- Supportadministrative tasks including photocopying; case documentation; databaseentry; filing; and answering phones.
- Maintaincleanliness and organization of the office. Wipe down desktops and countertopsand take out garbage as required.
- Performother duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondarydiploma (e.g., 2 to 3 years) in Criminology, counselling, social work,community services, etc., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1to 3 years of experience working with marginalized populations, substance useservices, mental health, corrections, etc., or equivalent
- The ability to understand thedynamics of offender behavior and assess their needs and risks.
- The skills to counsel offenders,form effective relationships and gain trust.
- The skills to understand the use ofauthority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations.
- The ability to assist offenders inidentifying and solving practical problems involved in their successfulreintegration into the community.
- The ability to assist offenders inidentifying and obtaining community services required for their successful reintegration.
- Skills in communicating effectively,both orally and in writing.
- The ability to demonstrate culturalcompetence and respect for diversity.
- Satisfactorycompletion of police fingerprinting and enhanced security reliabilityclearance.
- Satisfactorycompletion of Employee Immunization Record is required.
- FirstAid Level 1 with CPR is required.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of Windows,Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management systems.
- Knowledge of andability to operate standard office equipment, including telephone system, faxmachine, photocopier, printer, etc.

Salary for this role is between $27.92 - 29.60 per hour.
