Stikeman Elliott LLP, one of Canada’s pre-eminent business law firms, is seeking an experienced lawyer to join our corporate finance practice as a staff associate dedicated to a specific corporate finance stream.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working on public securities offerings and is looking to hone their skills and develop a depth of expertise and relationships with dedicated client teams, including exposure to legal document automation technology.
It is also an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to return to an alternative role in full-time private practice and offers the opportunity to work on a mix of routine and complex matters with the flexibility to work remotely as part of a dedicated and collaborative internal team.
Responsibilities in this role will include :
- drafting and filing various routine and novel securities offering documents and related materials;
- updating, processing and filing securities offering documents;
- managing and maintaining precedents including automation and other technology-assisted enhancements;
- reviewing and finalizing related closing documents;
- providing ancillary legal advisory services internally and to clients; and
- developing and maintaining reference materials, precedents, data analytics and other resources and supporting the internal team.
The successful candidate will have :
- At least 2 years of client-facing legal experience as a transactional securities lawyer in a top tier corporate firm or in an in-house environment.
- Excellent academic credentials with an LLB, JD or equivalent.
- Strong technical legal, analytical and drafting skills combined with problem solving skills and rigorous attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and file management skills, with the ability to work autonomously and in a collaborative multi-branched team environment towards a common purpose.
- Strong work ethic, initiative and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and judgement.
- Experience with legal document technology applications and an interest in legal technology and innovation is an asset.
The candidate will have individual responsibilities and also work in a collaborative team with administrative support, reporting to the Toronto office with flexibility to work remotely within Canada.
The candidate must be in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
