Overview of role :
The Senior Analyst, Public Cloud will play an integral part in the management and maturation of WestJet's public cloud presence through the analysis of varied datasets including performance, utilization, and consumption metrics in support of cost management and optimization.
The Senior Analyst, Public Cloud will be responsible for the development and management of our Microsoft Azure cost optimization practices;
Collaborating with the cloud operations team, strategic partners, and key stakeholders to optimize the usage, costs, and efficiency of cloud consumption.
Key deliverables / responsibilities include :
- Cost management of public cloud infrastructure services - including but not limited to management tools, metrics, monitoring, and reporting.
- Prepare cost and usage analysis, trends, forecasts, and reports to contribute to the development of standards and best practices as well as drive cost effectiveness in business decisions.
- Supports and manages the development of a cost management framework and roadmap.
- Uses sophisticated analytical thought to monitor cloud consumption trends and develops, recommends, and gains consensus with stakeholders to optimize cloud spend.
- Stays up to date on cost savings programs and strategies as well as industry trends. Gathers insights and develops new opinions and recommendations around cloud optimization and present solutions to leadership.
- Participates in the annual budgeting process to ensure proper budgeting of cloud infrastructure spend and partners with Finance in developing cost allocation methodologies.
- Act as an evangelist when meeting with other groups in describing the WestJet journey to the cloud. Represent the Cloud Operations team to other technical and non-technical teams including Directors, Senior Leadership, and Executives.
- Provide mentorship to other members of the Cloud Operations team as well as members of the Information Technology teams in the best practices of cost management and consumption within the cloud.
Experience and qualifications :
- 3-5 years of IT-related experience in roles such as Business Analyst, FinOps Analyst, Data Analyst.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Advanced / Expert skills in PowerBI and data visualization.
- Advanced / Expert skills in Excel.
- Strong working knowledge of cloud best practices and governance principles in large, complex organizations.
- Familiarity with cloud tagging strategies highly preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and with written communication, strong presentation skills.
- Comfortable presenting nuanced findings in data analytics to stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Proactive approach to new technologies and tools.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, multi-task, change approaches, and work under tight deadlines with a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and participate in department / team projects.
- Ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
- Demonstrate sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
