ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER - CD

A Public Health Inspector practicum must be complete to qualify. To express interest in a practicum, forward a request to position will Reporting to a Team Lead Environmental Health and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) is responsible for carrying out a diverse program of environmental health protection.

The Communicable Disease EHO (CD-EHO) will provide clinical and practice support and services related to the delivery of communicable disease control services across Northern Health, supporting the control of enteric, vector-borne, zoonotic, and other environmental communicable and infectious diseases and outbreaks.

• Using a variety of professional and technical skills, the position reduces the incidence of communicable disease, injury, and health hazards;
• performs technical assessments; provides consultative and education services; ensures that community development does not conflict with a healthy environment;

ensures compliance with environment health legislation, policy, and standards.

The CD-EHO provides disease follow up, education, training and professional practice support to field public health staff, frontline leaders, prevention services management staff, and a range of health, social service, education personnel and organizations.

The CD-EHO collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely response and follow-up to disease reports, supports the development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures, monitors for best practice, and participates in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.

The CD-EHO is a member of the NH Communicable Disease Program Team, working closely and in person, with the Central CD Hub.

Shift Rotation / Hours of work : Monday to Friday, Days - 08 : 30 to 16 : 30,

Smithers Smithers is located in the picturesque Bulkley Valley surrounded by three mountain ranges which provide a backdrop for the town’s Alpine setting.

The population of Smithers is approximately 6,000, with an additional 5,000 from the surrounding communities that access services.

There are three elementary schools, one secondary school, one alternate format school for grades 9-12 and Coast Mountain College.

Qualfications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, recognized by the Board of Certification, Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
• Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) issued by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors and be registered or eligible to be registered with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and possession of a personal vehicle.
