Maple Lodge Farms is Canada’s largest independently owned poultry processor. It engages in processing and supplying chicken products in Canada and internationally.
Regular and Halal products offered include chicken bacon, deli chicken meats, sliced packaged meats, fresh seasoned chicken, frozen boxed meats, and chicken wieners.
Maple Lodge Farms, Ltd. was founded in 1955 and has three processing locations along with supporting three hatcheries in the GTA.
Department Overview : The Health, Safety, Environment and Safety (HSE&S) Department at Maple Lodge Farms is responsible for the Implementation, Maintenance and Continuous Improvement of the Occupational Management and Environmental and Sustainability Management Systems.
This includes but is not limited to program reviews, completion of risk assessments, permit and compliance management, pollution control systems management, reporting on performance and efficiency Metrics and supporting incident investigations.
This Department is It is currently comprised of 10 team members.
Location : 8301 Winston Churchill Blvd, Brampton, ON L6Y 0A2 (base). As needed some travel will be required to our two other locations based in Mississauga;
Madill Distribution Center (315 Madill Blvd, Mississauga, ON L5W 1Y6) and Mississauga (7120 Edwards Blvd, Mississauga, ON L5S 1Z1).
As an Environment & Sustainability Co-Op student, you will have the opportunity to practically apply the knowledge they have learned in school in a large-scale manufacturing setting.
You will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Integrated Management System for HSE&S
This position will focus primarily on Environment & Sustainability Program Development & Organization and will involve dedication to environmental protection / compliance and continuous improvement in order to be successful.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES
- Review Environment & Sustainability, integrated Management Systems Documents for accuracy (Policies, Standards, Procedures and Training).
- Drafting Procedures and Training.
- Integrated Management Systems Development working on Compliance Calendar, Risk and Legal Assessment Summaries, Compliance Toolkit Summary, Environmental data collection and analysis.
- Any additional analytical / management task as assigned by the manager (withing reasonable and acceptable confinements of the job description).
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Must be enrolled in either an environmental science / engineering or safety program at the undergraduate level (preferably in the midst of graduating within the 2024 / 2025 year)
- Must be enrolled in a related program in an accredited post-secondary institution.
- The incumbent will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and willing to enter all areas of production.
- Knowledge in poultry and meat processing is preferred.
- Dedication to Environmental Protection / Compliance, Sustainability and Continuous Improvement.
- Strong communication, analytical, engineering / scientific and computer skills including Microsoft Office and custom software application.
- A boot on collaborative approach to learning all aspects of the poultry industry.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is office & plant-based (with some travel in and around Brampton / Mississauga to the distribution center and secondary processing unit);
Work hours : Maximum - 40 hours / week Day shift Monday Friday 8 : 00am - 4 : 30pm.
- Work in industrial settings surrounded with moving objects, machinery and motorized vehicles.
- Be able to work in both cold and hot environments.
- Potentially being exposed to unpleasant odours and exposure to all aspects of chicken processing including slaughter, and industrial wastewater processing systems.
