We are looking for a Payroll Administrator responsible for processing the full-cycle payroll for Canada. This person will also assist with payroll reconciliation and audits.
The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, has good Excel skills, and has a strong understanding of payroll compliance.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING THE ROLE
Key responsibilities include :
- Process bi-weekly payroll for both salaried and hourly employees, ensuring full cycle completion.
- Carry out all payroll processing tasks in Workday to ensure precise payroll calculations and uphold the integrity of payroll data and related records.
- Process requests for new hires, employee changes, leaves, and terminations.
- Act as a point of contact for any payroll-related questions or requests and handle them accurately and in a timely manner.
- Calculate and prepare remittances for source deductions, garnishees, group insurance, pension plans, etc.
- Process and submit online to Service Canada the Records of Employment (terminations, leaves, etc.).
- Process Statistics Canada surveys.
- Provide employment confirmation letters.
- Manage and validate payroll information for overseas employees.
- Process all invoices related to payroll (Canadian and international) and social benefits (group insurance, retirement plan).
- Perform all tasks related to payroll accounting (journal entries).
- Send monthly, certain deposit notices.
- Process monthly international transfers for retirees.
- Ensure that any employee payroll concerns or inquiries are addressed promptly and accurately.
- Participate in reviewing and ensuring compliance with payroll procedures in accordance with local regulations.
- Researching best practices to identify new payroll processes and policies, including preparation of payroll documentation.
- General understanding of accounting principles as it relates to payroll and compensation.
- Participate in various payroll audits.
- Manage the year-End process (Tax statement)
WHAT YOU BRING THE PERSON
The ideal candidate has :
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Canadian payroll processing.
- Attestation of Collegial Studies (ACS) or Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) in accounting.
- National Payroll Institute (NPI) certification, an asset.
- Working knowledge of payroll software.
- Intermediate knowledge of Canadian labor law and payroll legislation.
- Excellent problem-solving / judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Confidence, agility, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organization skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
- Intermediate MS Excel knowledge
- Ability to work with highly confidential, sensitive information in a professional manner.
- Bilingualism required (French and English).
