Role description :
Arcadis is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Construction Estimator to join the team in Ontario to service our projects across Canada.
The successful candidate must be a self-motivated estimator with experience in environmental remediation, earthworks, construction, and demolition projects.
Key attributes of the candidate include great organizational / planning and excellent communication skills to lead in a dynamic work environment.
The successful candidate will support projects all over Canada. The applicant may be required to report to an Arcadis office or complete site visits if required by project teams or clients / owners.
As this role is not directly field-based, there is an opportunity for a hybrid approach to work, balancing remote work and office time.
As an Intermediate Environmental Construction Estimator, you will work within the Arcadis Construction Services (ACS) Group, supporting projects related to environmental remediation / decommissioning.
The position will require a minimum of 10% travel.
Role accountabilities :
The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptual planning, early design, pre-bid, hard-bid, and negotiated contracts, including the interpretation and quantification of plans and specifications, surveying existing site conditions, soliciting material and subcontractor bids, cost estimates, and the preparation of bid documents and proposals.
They will aid in the preparation and following of estimating procedures, overall estimating review, and justification, and support the Project Controls team in decision-making.
The successful candidate will create project costings and budgets from clear objectives.
The Intermediate Environmental Construction Estimator will lead and manage individual cost management assignments from inception to completion, managing teams and resources to ensure delivery standards meet Arcadis and client expectations.
They will assure compliance with contracts in terms of project delivery parameters and scope of service and analyze and compile a range of complex data and documents, using knowledge to review and assess analysis and provide recommendations to contribute to project decision-making.
In this role, the successful candidate will use their knowledge and experience of industry best practices to support the development of current cost and commercial management systems and processes, and work to improve services and drive innovation to increase team contribution to project delivery.
Managing relationships with customers and subcontractors will be a key part of the role as they will identify opportunities to improve the cost management offering and deliver customer satisfaction.
They will act as a key technical resource within the field of cost / commercial management, providing technical advice and solutions to internal colleagues to support successful project delivery across a range of projects.
They will build valued relationships with senior clients / stakeholders / vendors to ensure client satisfaction, develop the cost management service, and create new business opportunities.
Key Skills & Attributes :
The successful candidate will have expert-level technical knowledge of the specialized field, including construction, scheduling, contracts, quality control, engineering principles, drawings, and environmental regulations, with the ability to analyze drawings and specifications to understand the scope of work and perform take-offs.
The Intermediate Environmental Construction Estimator will have a strong acumen for business development and selling skills on project / client teams, with proven experience in innovative problem-solving.
Other key attributes the successful candidate should have include :
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders and third parties.
- Excellent writing skills for complex reports and presentations.
- Experience working with bidding software.
Qualifications & Experience :
- Bachelors degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying) and 10 or more years of relevant experience.
- Work experience in Environmental Construction (Heavy Civil Remediation / Demo-Abatement).
- Relevant professional experience in a similar working environment, including delivering medium / large projects across an entire project life cycle.
- Experience utilizing estimating software (i.e., Construction Link, Bid to Win, Hard Dollar, Excel, others).
- Experience working with scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or MS Project preferred.
- Experience managing people and demonstrating leadership skills, including the ability to motivate others.
- Experience building and managing client relationships at the senior-management level, including the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
Other preferred experience includes in-field construction experience (as a Project Manager or Site Supervisor), experience on mining and oil and gas sites, pricing estimates nationwide, managing the procurement of large-scale / valued estimates, financial reporting of projects, and using software such as Bluebeam, Adobe, AutoCAD, and Revit.
