As a member of the Finance team, the Payroll and Payables Analyst position is primarily responsible for providing analytical support to the organization as part of the Finance team.
This support includes compiling and remitting government and union filings, data analysis, and testing of changes in accordance with Company and statutory requirements.
This position requires an individual with strong attention to detail, an analytical mindset, who can operate well in a fast-paced environment.
This position is based in our Ajax, ON office.
What you'll be working on
- Assist in the month-end close process by providing accurate and timely reports and reconciliations for management.
- Review and validate incoming invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies. Ensure proper coding and matching of invoices to purchase orders or contracts.
- Support cheque run payments, while ensuring timely and accurate disbursements.
- Process remittances related to payroll, including disbursements to benefit carriers, tax authorities and worker's compensation ensuring compliance with legislation.
- Leverage and utilize technology to help build efficiencies in payroll processes and reporting.
- Develop and maintain reports used for payroll analysis, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting.
- Actively liaise with staff and management on payroll related inquiries.
- Perform payroll and payables administrative tasks as required.
- Share knowledge and experiences with other team members.
- Work independently, research complex payroll issues and make recommendations for continuous improvements.
- Maintain and safeguard confidential employee information and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
- Take ownership on various projects and meet specified deadlines.
- Liaise with internal / external auditors, understand requirements, compile data and reports in response to audit queries.
- Help support upcoming ERP implementation.
- Other related responsibilities, as needed.
What we are looking for
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a finance / payroll capacity
- Experience working with ERP systems
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives.
- Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and capable of handling challenges in a dynamic business environment.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast paced and steadily changing environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
