Summary :
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and support the design and development of innovative solutions to aid our pursuit of clean methane pyrolysis.
Reporting to the Mechanical Design Team Lead the Senior Mechanical Engineer will support a variety of projects for our client.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Support the detailed design and build of our clients Reactor systems and associated test systems starting from the prototype stage.
- Lead and create concept level component and system designs to communicate and evaluate ideas.
- Perform detailed design of components, tolerance analysis, structural calculations and other analysis where required.
- Perform engineering analyses including value-based trade-off studies, physics-based modelling, and engineering calculations to support design proposals.
- Document all design decisions and analysis.
- Lead and participate in Design Reviews, DFMEAs, PHAs and Hazops.
- Complete fabrication drawings of components and assemblies using GD&T where necessary, and support inspections of incoming parts.
- Produce Bill of Material, support supply chain engagement / procurement activities.
- Lead and support the mechanical assembly of mechanical components and test stations.
- Design and perform component and / or system level testing to validate designs including support for test infrastructure design.
- Perform design and / or test data analyses and produce / present engineering reports and design recommendations.
- Follow and where needed create and document engineering workflows to support the development of engineering best practices.
- Support and / or lead select testing activities as required.
You Bring :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- designation or eligible in BC and / or Alberta.
- 10 - 15 years relevant and progressive experience as a mechanical engineer.
- Strong communication abilities both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in 3D CAD. CREO (formerly ProEngineer) is the platform being used.
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, valves, bolted joints, fatigue, pressurized gas systems, seals, metals, high temperature equipment and materials.
- Experience with requirements driven product design.
- Comfortable performing tolerance stack analysis, thermal expansion calculations, managing part fit and communicating design intent with GD&T.
- Previously conducted or reviewed analysis of design ideas through FEA and CFD.
- A strong analytical mind and proficiency in problem solving and structured decision making.
- Additional experience with industrial equipment such as burners, valves, pumps, cooling systems, separation units, piping and pressure vessels.
- Experience with high temperature systems, insulation and refractory materials.
- Flexibility to work in fluid environment where you may need to perform in adjacent expertise areas.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with the desire and capability to help build what you have designed.
- Previous product development and prototyping experience in an R&D environment would be an asset.

- Able to work out of our Burnaby office, at least 4 days / week
