Overview : Ourclient is a prestigious business law firm seeking a meticulous andexperienced Accountant to join their team.
The ideal candidate willhave a comprehensive understanding of financial processes within alegal environment ensuring the smooth management of fundscompliance with regulations and effective financialreporting.
KeyResponsibilities :
A. Money In
Handle all intake and recording offunds into the firm (e.g. payments from clients) includingreceiving cheques and confirmations of payments posting of paymentstracking AR posting bank transactions and taking bankdeposits.
B. Money Out
Manage the recording and handling offunds out of the firm (e.g. payments to vendors employees banks)including intake of invoices posting of invoices preparing AP listsobtaining approvals and setting up payments in online banking or bycheque.
C.Billing
Support the billing process and provide assistance to LAson billing as needed.
Advise and follow up with LAs and / or Lawyers on agedWIP.
Follow up withclients on AR and advise LAs and / or Lawyers of aged ARoutstanding.
D. Trust
Receive and record all trusttransactions.
Ensurecompliance with trust rules and procedures.
Act as an internal champion for compliantefficient and effective trust processes.
E. Memberships andInsurance
Maintain the list of firm memberships.
Handle renewal and payment formemberships.
Assist theDirector of Operations & Talent with annual firm insurancerenewals.
F. Financial and Compliance Reporting& Bank Reconciliations
Pull and prepare regular and requestedfinancial reports.
Prepare letters to The Law Society of BC asneeded.
Pull reports forGST PST and TAF and handle their filing and payment.
Assist with WCB filing and paymentEHT filing and payment.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for allaccounts.
Act as aliaison with external parties for audits.
Assist with the preparation of the annual firmbudget and regular financial reporting including KPIs.
Report on financial matters atpartner meetings.
Prepareassociate bonus reporting and partner draw and distributionreporting.
G. Training andEducation
Educate and answer questions for employees regarding trustprocedures Law Society requirements and accountingprocesses.
Conduct formaltraining sessions for new hires during onboarding and annualtraining for all employees.
H. Payroll
Handle payroll through ADP includingchanges and calculations.
Coordinate with the Director of Operations &Talent on new hires departures and changes to existingemployees.
I. YearEnd FinancialPreparation
Assist with file and accounting clean up prior toyearend.
Prepare yearendreporting.
Act as aliaison with external accountants for yearend needs.
J. Bank and VendorRelationship Management
Liaise with the bank to resolve issuesincluding online banking.
Liaise with vendors regarding invoices AP andpayments.
Liaise withpayroll and accounting software vendors.
K. General FinancialResponsibility and Process Improvement
Monitor cash flow and advise theDirector of Operations & Talent of concerns.
Propose annual billable rateincreases.
Improve thebilling process and KYC process.
Champion efficient and effective accounting andcompliancerelated processes.
Provide recommendations on financial processes complianceissues and efficiency improvements.
L.Other
Provide additional support relating to firm financials andfinancial processes to the Director of Operations & Talentas needed.
Qualifications :
Proven experience in financialmanagement within a legal environment.
Strong understanding of accounting principlestrust procedures and compliance.
Proficiency in financial software and tools.
Excellent organizational andcommunication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of ateam.
Location : VancouverBC
Salary : $80 $110depending on experience
