The position :

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Vice-President of Programs will lead a team of engaged and passionate individuals towards delivering programs that are impactful and make a difference for young people’s mental health in Canada .

Well versed in equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles and approaches to mental health and youth-centred programming , this leader will continue to deepen the impact to better meet the needs of young people aged 13-24.

The VP, Programs will understand the importance of working across the organization and will play a strong role in creating a supportive, engaging culture.

They will serve as a key member of the Executive Team and will support the Board and the Mental Health and Advocacy Committee.

The responsibilities of the position will include :

Strategic Leadership : (35%)

  • Develop and implement key strategies that enable programming that enables progress against the organization’s strategic plan, builds on past progress and successes, expands reach and increases impact, both long term and short term, using an equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging lens.
  • Work with the Programs Team to develop, monitor and achieve Key Programs Indicators, measurable outcomes, evaluation and continuous improvement processes.
  • Develop and implement a plan to measure long term impact on the mental health of young people.
  • Work with the Leadership to align the organizations's activities to the strategic plan.

Program and Organizational Leadership (30%)

  • Serve as a strong member of the executive leadership team, supporting the CEO and the Board of Directors when it comes to strategic decisions, identification and mitigation of risk, programming, the promotion of a strong and engaging culture and financial accountability and stability.
  • Act as the Programs staff resource to the Board of Directors and provide leadership to the Mental Health and Advocacy Committee as applicable.
  • Act a key liaison between the Executive Team and the Programs team, ensuring the sharing of key directions, communications and priorities with the team.
  • Work cross functionally and collaboratively across the organization to support the achievement of organizational objectives and to support an engaging environment.
  • Work with the Programs team to develop budgets and annual plans that incorporate both realistic and ambitious goals.
  • Work with the Development team to provide clear direction when it comes to funding opportunities and participate as a subject matter expert in donor meetings.
  • Work with Marketing and Communications to support strong storytelling and content for marketing and communications products and vehicles.

People Management (20%)

  • Be a strong people leader to a team of professionals through coaching, mentorship, identification of opportunities for growth, performance management and career development and ensuring alignment of priorities and purpose. .
  • Work with the Programs Leadership Team and People and Culture on identifying training needs of the team, career progression plans and retention plans for Programs department staff.

External Relations and Thought Leadership (15%)

  • Stay apprised of key research findings as it relates to youth mental health and build a process for knowledge sharing and mobilization.
  • Build strategic partnerships that enable the organization to achieve its ambitious strategic plan and ultimately serve more young people in Canada in meaningful way.
  • Represent the organization at speaking engagements and on external working groups and coalitions.
  • Act as a media spokesperson as needed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in program strategy,design and implementation , including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role in the nonprofit sector
  • Experience working with equity-deserving communities in the delivery of programming.
  • A degree in Social Work, Public Health, Nonprofit Organizational Development or a mental health related field of study
  • Deep knowledge of mental health issues affecting youth, the mental health sector in Canada and youth-engagement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in organizational and programmatic strategic development and implementation
  • Stellar leadership abilities; must be an inspirational leader with a proven track record of leading high-functioning teams and relationships across departments
  • Commitment and understanding of youth engagement, mental health, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • A love of collaboration and a team-oriented attitude; open-minded, approachable, and professional
  • A drive for innovation and organization to grow a start-up environment to a mature, robust, national level organization
  • A powerful and confident communicator who can represent and communicate complex programs in simple language
  • Goal-driven and aspirational with a passion for improving the landscape of mental health in Canada.
