Our client, a global EPC company, is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineering Team Lead for their Calgary office. This individual will manage the Western Canada mechanical design team, which includes engineers and designers.
Projects range from waste facilities and waste-to-energy building designs to local hydrogen facilities at the Feed level design stage.
Additional responsibilities include proposal support for transportation station design in Ontario and work on wastewater treatment plants.
Duties
- Work with the Business Group Leader (BGL) to establish resourcing, systems and processes to deliver services and meet client expectations, budget and schedule.
- Develop, coach and mentor the team including scheduling and management of workload for the team
- Ensure timely completion of project deliverables, be able to handle several projects at once and determine priorities
- Supervise and lead the production of engineering designs, calculations, drawings, details and specifications from concept to final design for tender and contract packages
- Coordinate all aspects of the building mechanical design from preliminary including being responsible for the design of plumbing layout, HVAC and fire protection systems in retrofit or new projects
- Technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents
- Develop and implement QA / QC processes for project work
- Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients
- Site inspections of existing infrastructure as well as those under construction
- Provide construction support, including review of submittals and requests for information
- Support DMs (Design Managers) on proposals by providing the technical scope of a project and the level of effort required to complete mechanical designs and deliverables
Hard Skills
- 10-20 years experience in infrastructure mechanical design (plumbing and drainage, HVAC, fire protection, BAS systems)
- 2+ years leading a team
- Familiarity with relevant codes (., TSA, National Plumbing Code)
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously ($500k to $1M in design fees, $10 to $100M TIC)
- Proposal and engineering LOE development
- Managing team workload / resourcing
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills

- Ability to handle multiple priorities and ensure timely completion of project deliverables

This is a contract position with a duration of 12 Month(s).
Work Site
This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Calgary, Alberta and some days remote.
Work Environment
New office in downtown Calgary. Reporting to the Business Group Leader for Western Canada. Overseeing a team of 3 with potential to grow to 6.
Coordination between groups and regions required, with minimal travel to sites (once a quarter).
