Production Planner
About the Job
The Production Planner in a chicken processing facility plays a critical role in planning and optimizing the production schedule and resource plan to ensure efficient and continuous operations.
This position requires strategic thinking, attention to detail, and coordination across multiple departments to meet customer demand while maintaining product quality and regulatory compliance.
Principle Duties
- Assess and determine the facility’s requirements for raw materials, equipment, and labor to support production goals and meet customer demand.
- Develop a feasible daily production plan by, factoring in customer requirements, available processing capacity, labor, and materials while adhering to product sequencing requirements and optimizing production costs.
- Create and issue work orders to initiate and track production activities, ensuring clarity in production goals and resource allocation.
- Review the production schedule daily, weekly, and monthly to confirm it aligns with business priorities and operational requirements.
- Track and compare actual yield with the targets outlined in the production plan to ensure planning accuracy. Analyze variances to identify trends or issues affecting production efficiency and adjust plans to improve yield forecasts and resource utilization.
- Lead weekly meetings to communicate any updates in production schedules, resources, or processes to the team, ensuring everyone is aligned and following best practices.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels for fresh, dry ingredients, and packaging by tracking short-dated products, setting inventory caps, rotating stock, and maintaining real-time visibility on aged and work-in-progress (WIP) items to minimize waste and optimize usage.
- Collaborate with quality control, procurement and other departments as needed to maintain efficient workflows.
- Analyze production gaps and utilize PSL (Plant Service Level) reports to provide explanations and recommended actions to the relevant departments.
- Oversee investigations and resolutions related to inventory discrepancies in raw materials and finished products.
- Prepare performance reports, monitor production status, and address any issues impacting production goals.
- May occasionally be required to work, support, and liaise with other Amir’s locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in management, operations, or a related field.
- 3+ years in production planning in food processing, ideally in poultry or meat.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing, inventory, and distribution processes.
- Experience with production scheduling in FMCG environments is a plus.
Skills and Characteristics
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP software (Business Central or similar).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
