Job Summary
The Team
The Provincial Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (PDHHS) team is a dedicated group of around 30 professionals focused on providing essential outreach and local services for Deaf children youth and their families provincially with a focus on language acquisition and language development.
With roles ranging from childcare counselors to outreach workers and sign language interpreters, we are evolving into a more cohesive service provider after 30 years of operation.
Our commitment to inclusion and equity ensures that Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families receive the support they need for language development and acquisition.
Fluency in ASL is required, as we are a bilingual workplace that values diverse communication styles and perspectives.
The Role
In this role, you will oversee local area services while working closely with the outreach team lead to coordinate overall services to create a family-centered approach for deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind children, youth and their families, You'll support relationships with local contracts and develop programs that support child and family development while working closely with the Victory Hill Dorm Operations Lead to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications :
Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements
1. Preferred Credentials :
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology / Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
- In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
- A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
- NOTE : If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).
You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- At least 2 years of job-specific work experience.
- Experience supervising staff.
2. Expanded Credentials :
- Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major / Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate / Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- NOTE : If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).
You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- Minimum 1 year of related work experience and at least 2 years of job-specific work experience OR At least 3 years of job-specific work experience.
- Experience supervising staff.
Human Services fields include : Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.
Additional Experience Requirements :
Must be a minimum level 8 in American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (10 levels) OR use sign language as the primary mode of communication.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following :
- Preferred education credentials AND / OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
- Applicants with experience working with the deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind community.
Applicants with experience working in a 24-hour environment.
Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
