An opening exists in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division for the position of DEI Intern reporting to Director Diversity, Inclusion and Corporate Communications
Work Location : This role is hybrid, requiring virtual and in-office work (at our downtown Toronto location), as projects require.
Role Summary
The candidate for this paid summer internship position will work with our Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Corporate Communications on initiatives supporting the implementation of our company-wide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy.
The mission of our DEI Strategy is to ensure that our people, our products and our partnerships reflect the diversity of the children and classrooms we serve across the country.
In this role, the candidate will engage in meaningful work that supports their learning and professional growth while also contributing to our mission.
Primary Responsibilities
- Gaining valuable experience in the industry, making connections and building relationships with teams across the company, and on-the-job learning and skills development opportunities
- Contributing to projects related to our DEI Strategy, e.g., completing diversity and representation audits of our collections, developing online learning modules related to DEI topics, conducting research and summarizing key findings, etc.
- Participating in team meetings and bringing an equity perspective to discussions, issue analysis, and problem solving
Qualifications
- Interest in children’s books, authors and media
- Personal values that are aligned with Scholastic’s Credo, including a demonstrated understanding of the importance of broadening representation of marginalized communities within the publishing industry
- Understanding of the principles and practices of equity, inclusion and anti-oppression and how they apply to storytelling
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams), and Google Suite (Google Slides, Drive)
