A prominent organization in the construction and engineering sector is looking for an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead the successful execution of large-scale EPC / EPCM industrial and mining projects.
This role is responsible for overseeing all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery within contract requirements, while meeting high standards of quality, safety, and client performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities :
- The Project Manager holds ultimate decision-making authority for all SMPEI project-related matters, working closely with direct reports to ensure efficient resolution of challenges and alignment with project goals.
- Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the Project Manager receives technical and functional guidance, while providing leadership and direction to the project team.
- Serves as the primary point of contact with the client and senior management throughout the project, maintaining continuous communication to ensure clarity and alignment on objectives.
- Engages with key stakeholders including suppliers, subcontractors, and governmental agencies to ensure smooth collaboration and adherence to project timelines.
- Builds and maintains a management-level network with all involved entities, such as joint ventures or consortium partners, to foster strong project execution.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define project scope, establish detailed work plans, schedules, and budgets.
Promotes the use of best practices and lessons learned to enhance execution strategies.
- Oversees all contractual commitments, ensuring compliance with specifications and terms. Implements a change management system, addressing change orders and claims in a timely and organized manner.
- Leads the development and continual refinement of the project execution plan, leveraging project control systems to monitor progress, identify deviations, and take corrective actions.
- Ensures that quality requirements are identified and met, with regular assessments of customer satisfaction throughout the project.
- Oversees the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs, ensuring that both office and field operations comply with all applicable regulations and laws.
- Leads project financial management efforts, overseeing cash flow, budget controls, and non-reimbursable project costs, minimizing the use of company capital resources.
- Ensures smooth transition and final turnover to the client, securing final acceptance and delivering a comprehensive final project report.
- Manages relationships with CLAC union and employees : Supports Alberta and British Columbia collective agreements, ensuring labor peace and harmony on the project.
Facilitates recruitment efforts and leverages the CLAC network for future projects.
Skills & Experience :
- 15+ years of proven experience in the delivery of construction / EPC / EPCM project management, experience with SMPEI best practices, constructability, risk analysis, and proposal review.
- Ability to lead, organize, and staff a project team within a matrix organization.
- Expertise in project controls, fiscal management, and the use of standard office tools and project automation systems.
- Strong knowledge of project execution planning, baseline development, and contracts / subcontracts formulation, including risk analysis, negotiations, and change control management.
- Experience with project insurance, cross-functional interfaces, supply chain management, and quality control.
- Business and commercial awareness, with expertise in cash flow management, currency strategies, and resource conservation.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a track record of managing effective client and team relationships.
- Experience working with labor unions, particularly CLAC, and ensuring labor harmony within project teams, with a deep understanding of Alberta and British Columbia labor agreements.
