Detailed Overview
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Practice Chief, Respiratory Services, and being administratively accountable to the Manager, Health Services;
performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to respiratory therapy; assists with in-services / education and provides input into program development at Langley Memorial Hospital.
Responsibilities Performs diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, interventions and follow-ups as related to Respiratory Therapy such as assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and support, initiating / maintaining mechanical ventilatory support of adults, children and infants, providing airway management, patient evaluation and daily care of patients as prescribed and documents same.
Provides family, patient and staff education, which may include participating in established education programs. Performs outpatient procedures including bronchoscopies, pediatric exercise challenges, ABG's, care of chronic ventilated patients.
Requisitions supplies and minor equipment for departmental operations within approved budget; maintains area supply inventory.
Participates in quality improvement activities such as development, implementation and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and patient materials, and the development of departmental goals and objectives.
Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, record and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
Monitors and performs required maintenance, cleaning, calibration, evaluation and quality control of respiratory and related equipment.
Provides input into the departmental operating and capital budgets; monitors and maintains departmental operations as required.
Participates in meetings and departmental committees and contributes to problem identification and resolution. Participates in Respiratory Therapy student education as required.
Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam. Two years' recent experience. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C and current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
