We are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our team. Reporting directly to the President and based out of our Toronto office, this role is pivotal in fostering a safety-first culture.
The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining consistent health and safety practices, promoting safe work habits, providing education and training, and ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation.
The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to :
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures
- Responsible for obtaining and maintaining external safety certifications (e.g. COR, ISNetworld)
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards. Ensure that field audits, site visits, job observations, and office inspections are conducted to assess staff compliance with safety requirements and identify opportunities for improvement
- Investigate workplace incidents and injuries, and implement corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence
- Maintain records of safety inspections, near misses, incidents, and training
- As the management representative, actively participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and support addressing and resolving issues raised
- In cooperation with the JHSC, investigate incidents, make recommendations and implement measures to reduce future occurrences
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation
- Develop and facilitate training and education to employees on health and safety practices
- Support client relationships by fulfilling client-driven requirements including consulting on specific client projects (typically comprising 10% to 25% of available time)
Requirements and Experience :
- Minimum 10 years of Health and Safety program management experience, ideally including construction safety experience
- Post-secondary education in a field related to safety, such as a diploma or degree in occupational health and safety
- CRSP, NCSO or other relevant designation is an asset
- COR experience an asset
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate others
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and manage priorities
- Ability to travel to support operational needs, conduct site visits, and audits as required
- Strong computer and software skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email programs
