Umbra Engineering is a consulting engineering firm specializing in fire alarm, life safety, and security system design and inspection.
We work with clients in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Our team of specialized electrical engineers, journeymen electricians and industry trained field technicians provide industry leading design, engineering, and integrated solutions for reliable life safety and security systems.
Since we are a sister company to Williams Engineering Canada, we have the capacity to execute large scale projects and to advise on engineering above and beyond life safety, security, and fire protection systems.
Position Purpose : Provide drafting and design support to Electrical Engineers and Technologists.
Specific Responsibilities Include :
- Support the engineering design, specification and / or recommendations for a variety of the following : Fire Alarm systemsSecurity systems
- Electrical drawing preparation utilizing AutoCAD
- Complete drawing revisions from Electrical Engineer or Senior Technologist’s review and mark ups.
- Communicate effectively with the Senior Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineer / Project Manager.
- Plot and compile drawings for technical reviews and submissions to clients.
Qualifications and Experience :
- Graduate from a recognized technical program or have a minimum of 2 years drafting experience
- Working towards a C.E.T. or AScT designation an asset
Skills and Capabilities :
- Good interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style.
- Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
- Application knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD and willing to learn Revit.
- Ability to learn relevant codes and regulations,Canadian Electrical codeBuilding codesFire alarm codes (ULC / NFPA)
- Ability to write basic reports.
- Ability to relate 2-dimensional drawings to 3-dimensional spaces.
