Zurich Canada is currently looking for a VP, Financial Controller to provide strategic direction and operational oversight for our accounting operations.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, Zurich Canada, you will be accountable for the internal and external financial reporting for Zurich Canada with a focus on balancing financial performance, governance, and customer satisfaction.

What you will do
- Accountable to the Chief Financial Officer for the accuracy of all balance sheet, profit & loss, and statistical items in line with Group instructions, guidelines and policies
- Oversee production of statutory, regulatory and solvency reporting, as well as the performance of the billing and collection activities within the business unit
- Monitor adherence to controls for financial reporting and use expert technical knowledge to provide feedback to identify and rectify irregularities and advise on sign-off of reports.
- Evaluate and review business policies and plans to identify and quantify financial risk and advise senior stakeholders of potential risks and work with them to mitigate risk
- Review and interpret functional policies, develop and recommend changes that may have a significant impact on the global finance operations strategy and provide authoritative advice to colleagues to ensure their effective implementation.
- Implement consistent best practices locally in line with Financial Accounting & Reporting and Finance Operations policies and instructions
- Manage and lead teams of professionals and managerial employees, establish direction and set objectives for the function, and oversee hiring and deployment process
- Ability to communicate at the Senior Management level within the business unit, to drive change and to influence internal stakeholders
What you bring to the table
Required :
- Bachelors Degree and 10 or more years of experience in the Financial Accounting and Reporting area
- Insurance and / or reinsurance, IFRS, GAAP, statutory and accounting policy knowledge
- People management experience
Preferred :
- Advanced technical accounting and / or audit experience
- CPA, MBA
- Strong Microsoft Office experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Project management experience
