Arup is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the Technical Advisor team (Arup TA Team) in Toronto, Canada. This manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team for the design and planning of significant portion of the work.
This work involves completion of reference concept design, Project Specific Output Specifications, and Project Agreement documents among other responsibilities.
This person will lead the following tasks :
1) Reference Concept Design and Class 4 Cost Estimates
To support the development of the Request for Proposals (RFP), the Arup TA Team will define the guiding principles of the design.
The outcome of will be a Reference Concept Design and Class 4 Cost Estimates for the designs developed. This includes substantial client and stakeholder interface.
2) Project Specific Output Specifications and Project Agreement
The Arup TA Team will undertake the drafting of project guidelines in the form of Project-Specific Output Specifications (PSOS) that document all project requirements.
The outcome is a Project Specific Output Specifications for the scopes of work that will be included in the RFP package for the project.
In addition to the PSOS the Arup TA Team will also be drafting or contributing to other parts of the overall Project Agreement (PA).
This will require providing continued support to Mx and IO to define and execute the Progressive Design Build process and assist in preparation of the Project Agreement.
3) Procurement
The Arup TA Team will be highly involved in the procurement process to award a Progressive Design Build contract to deliver the SRS scope of work.
This involves responding to RFIs, participating in Commercially Confidential Meetings, preparing Tender Addendums, reviewing design and other processes.
4) Implementation
The Arup TA Team will have a key role after the contract is signed with a Design Builder which includes Design and Construction Oversight, interfacing with other contracts / projects, commercial issues and closeout.
Responsibilities :
- Identifying the appropriate resources necessary to deliver the tasks above
- Ensuring that the team is delivering the work products necessary to achieve the project schedule
- Arranging technical review meetings with their client counterparts to track the progress of design, explain and discuss review comments and remarks, and discuss design issues as they arise.
Design and PSOS development are intended to be an interactive process and the Contract Managers drive this interaction.
- Leading preparation and briefing of presentation packages for technical and stakeholder meetings to review status of design development and requirements gathering to drive decision making
- Leading Arup TA Team inter-disciplinary reviews (IDRS) and pre-submission meetings with the client
- Developing task budgets
- Delivering quality deliverables within project budget and schedule
- Confirm the levels of expertise required in this new role (see AMR Qualifications). Include how the role will enhance and / or develop the firm’s capability / reputation both internally and externally.
Qualifications :
- Over 15 years’ experience in infrastructure engineering / advisory gained both in the Americas and internationally
- 10 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in design management for large-scale infrastructure projects, with majority of experience on rail systems engineering, infrastructure, and / or transit station projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Proven record in delivery of large multi-disciplinary planning and / or design projects
- Experience with design, procurement and construction of major transit stations including multimodal interchanges
- Experience in working for both prime clients (Owners) and Design and Build Contractors in the delivery of major rail projects in the Americas and internationally is preferred
- Ability to communicate across all levels of project and client team organizations, with excellent team and client relationship skills
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng).

Toronto Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $125,000 to $170,000 per year.
Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
