CERTIFIED EDUCATION ASSISTANT - FRENCH IMMERSION
The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District No. 83 invites qualified individuals to apply for our Certified Education Assistant French Immersion position at Shuswap Middle school.
This is Temporary CUPE union position, and the rate of pay is $28.29 per hour in a temporary or casual position.
THE DISTRICT
In the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District, we serve just over 6800 students and 1200 staff in 24 through a variety of sites located around Shuswap Lake and the North Okanagan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :
To assist the teacher in direct intensive, follow-up of instruction.
To implement under the direction of the teacher a behaviour management program for the student(s) which involves :
- reinforcing the growth of acceptable learning and social behaviours;
- fostering the growth of positive self-concept, confidence and independence; maintaining the student(s) on task;
- applying intervention consequences for inappropriate behaviour;
recording an analysis of learning and behaviour outcomes.
To provide personal assistance, supervision and / or personal care during instructional and non-instructional time.
To be advisor / advocate for the student(s) in dealing with others.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
Grade twelve plus the Certified Education Assistant Course or equivalent recent experience (working with special needs students with partial physical and / or mental handicaps or learning disabilities).
Four months recent successful experience working with children in a structured program or school setting.
Demonstrated ability to be firm and gentle in dealing with individual students.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all school and support services personnel involved in program delivery, often with minimal supervision.
Must be able to read and speak French.
