About The Opportunity

WhereTo is looking for a Product Design Manager to join our prototyping team as we tackle some of those most interesting problems in business travel.

WhereTo is a nimble, startup-minded team within the larger company focused on building the next-generation business travel platform that serves two of Flight Centre's main businesses : SMB travel handled by Corporate Traveler and Enterprise travel handled by FCM.

This role combines the responsibilities of a User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) designer with those of a Product Manager.

The ideal candidate will have a unique skill set that enables them to bridge the gap between design and product development, ensuring our products not only look great but also deliver exceptional user experiences and meet strategic business goals.

As a member of the prototyping team you will work closely with WhereTo leadership to test hypotheses, explore new ideas, and build rapid prototypes for user and market testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the UI / UX design process for our rapid prototypes, from concept to implementation.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that align with user needs and business objectives.
  • Conduct user research, user testing, and usability studies to inform design decisions and iterate on designs.
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, UX Researchers, and stakeholders to ensure design feasibility, alignment, and successful ideation.
  • Monitor and analyze user behavior, feedback, and metrics to drive improvements in the product.
  • Conduct research with users, customers, and the business to explore their pain points and find opportunities for new products and functionality.
  • Effectively communicate design concepts, rationale, and the impact of design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to product growth by identifying critical areas for potential improvement and lead experimentation efforts
  • You will help work through user experience mapping, building a product roadmap and feature prioritization
  • Approach projects with an ownership mentality so that both platform and experimental products will succeed, and you will inspire the best possible performance from your team
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create and manage product roadmaps
  • Facilitate sprint planning, estimation, stand-up, demo, and retrospective meetings
  • Identify business needs and translate those into product requirements
  • Create sitemaps, user flow diagrams, low, medium, and high fidelity mock-ups
  • Facilitate user testing and user feedback sessions
  • Create user stories and manage the product backlog
  • Manage the design / developer hand-off process
  • Oversee and manage product timelines and budgets
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders verbally and in writing

Experience & Qualifications

  • You have proven experience in UI / UX design, with a portfolio showcasing successful design projects.
  • You have some experience in product management, including defining product strategies, creating roadmaps, and working with development teams.
  • You love working in a collaborative, high-energy environment, using agile methodologies and tools like Figma, Sketch, Zeplin, Pivotal Tracker (or equivalents).
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and usability best practices.
  • You value direct and honest feedback, but you know how to communicate it gracefully so it betters your partners' (coworkers and stakeholders) work and happiness.
  • Bonus points if you have experience in HTML / CSS or product development, you have a background in entrepreneurship or consulting.
