Our client, a leading Bank, is seeking an experienced Chief Risk Officer (CRO).

As the Chief Risk Officer, you will provide independent oversight of enterprise risk management, governance, and control functions, setting strategic direction and policy to align with our client’s risk appetite and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage risk frameworks, including the Risk Appetite Statement, policies, procedures, board and management risk reporting, risk management systems, tools, analytics, and stress testing.
  • Develop and execute strategic and operational plans for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), covering key areas like risk reporting, key risk indicator monitoring, risk control self-assessments, business process mapping, asset quality reviews, and general oversight.
  • Monitor and report on the risk profile, initiating actions to maintain adherence to the approved risk appetite. - Independently assess significant new business initiatives, ensuring alignment with the risk appetite and operational capacity.
  • Monitor internal and external risk events, evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls and fostering a culture of risk identification and challenge.
  • Oversee the internal capital adequacy assessment process, including risk assessment, measurement, capital planning, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
  • Monitor the credit quality of lending portfolios and critically evaluate new initiatives to manage credit risk. - Foster a culture of risk awareness across the organization.
  • Oversee the Chief Compliance Officer & CAMLO, including the compliance and AML programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field; a Master’s in finance or risk management is an asset.
  • 15+ years in risk management within a federally regulated financial institution (FRFI). - Familiarity with Canadian regulations and standards, especially those from OSFI.
  • Proven experience engaging with all levels of the organization, from junior staff to the Board.
