We are seeking an experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer for a well established client of ours with operations throughout Western Canada and the US.
This position will be home based and will require travel (40%). The role will develop knowledge and systems to improve Process Safety Management systems, lead Process Hazard Analyses, lead and participate in audits and assessments, and represent our client at industry forums and conferences.

Responsibilities
- Function as a part of the Process Safety Team, providing guidance to site coordinators and management / corporate personnel on overall Process Safety Management strategy, standards, guidelines and execution.
- Develop and deliver training on internal Process Safety policies, standards and procedures.
- Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOPs, LOPAs, What-Ifs, and Bowties.
Process Safety Program Monitoring and Reporting :
- Report on progress against established targets.
- Participate in and lead incident investigations.
- Develop and implement protocols and processes to assess facilities’ Process Safety performance. This includes auditing as part of the Responsible Care auditing programs.
Enhancement of Process Safety Program :
- Represent the company in industry Process Safety groups (such as the CCPS, CIAC Process Safety Network and other industry specific Process Safety Associations).
- Monitor developments in Process Safety best practices and incorporate them in internal program as appropriate.
- Implement improvements to the Process Safety program as needed to support improved performance.
Support of Specific Initiatives and Projects
Utilize Process Engineering and Process Safety expertise to identify issues, designs and controls requiring improvement;
provide guidance to site technical personnel; and recommend and / or implement solutions.
- Provide Process Safety oversight and support for major projects.
- Process engineering support for sites that don’t have onsite engineering
- Work with project managers, site engineers, and members of the corporate resource team to ensure successful project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field and have a Professional Engineer designation in home region
- 5+ years Process Engineering and Process Safety Management experience with direct operational support in industrial manufacturing
- Experience with PHA software such as PHA-Pro or Stature
- Experience conducting and leading process safety audits
- Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards and guidelines related to Process Safety and Design
- High attention to detail
- Self-Starter
- Able to troubleshoot when required
- Above average technical writing and presentation skills
- Experience working with cross functional teams and able to manage through influence
- Able to travel up to 40%, predominantly within Canada and the U.S.
- Functional Safety and SIS design / implementation experience is an asset
- Bilingual is an asset (French / English)
