What we need :
The Unit Secretary is a valuable member of the Intensive Care Unit and has a significant impact on the efficient and effective operation of the patient care unit.
The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties.
Responsibilities will include :
- Receiving patients, visitors and / or hospital staff on the patient care unit
- Responding to and referring telephone calls to appropriate personnel
- Booking patient appointments and providing information related to patient care as authorized by the Director or her delegate
- Recording, organizing, inputting and filing of physician orders in the computer
- Ordering of supplies
- Participating in special projects as requested
What you bring to the role :
- Previous unit secretary / medical clerical experience required with preference to experience in a medical setting.
- ICU experience preferred.
- Recent Medical Office Administration Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution required.
- Sound knowledge of medical terminology
- Proficient computer and typing skills
- Knowledge of payroll, order entry, registration and scheduling systems is an asset.
- Experience with Meditech 6.0 is preferred. Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast pace environment
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
- Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
- Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule :
The successful candidate must be able to work days 11.25 hour shifts (0730-1930 and 0800-2000). Please note schedules may change based on operational needs.
Compensation :
CUP C03 $25.93 $29.17 per hour
