Position summary :
The Occupational Health Coordinator plays a role in addressing staff wellness and the prevention of illness and injury in the workplace.
This position works collaboratively with the Occupational Health Practitioner in the development and implementation of Occupational Health initiatives.
This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide a safe health environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and families.
Responsibilities include :
- Coordinates and executes the delivery of wellness initiatives under the direction of the Occupational Health Practitioner and the Vice President, Risk, Quality, and Clinical Transformation
- Activities include but not limited to scheduling programs, liaises with external wellness providers, maintains program registration, coordinates the evaluation of the wellness initiatives.
- Create opportunities for employees to enhance their personal health and well-being through a variety of mediums.
- Provides counselling and / or appropriate referral for employees with physical and emotional needs impacting their job performance and / or workplace
- Promotes staff participation in wellness activities and solicits feedback from employees in addition to collecting and maintain reporting data regarding usage and trend analyses
- Performs pre-placement health assessments
- Provides first aid for work related injuries or health issues including follow up and appropriate referral
- Liaises with Infection Control on issues of staff exposure and prevention of exposure to infections
- Provides support to the annual flu vaccination campaign and any other department initiatives promoting wellness.
- Assists and consults with the employee’s health physician as required
- Conducts orientation for new staff on all aspects of Occupational Health
- Participates in a team approach to prevention of illness and injury in the workplace
- Facilitates education sessions with staff and managers on Occupational Health issues
- Provides technical advice and guidance to staff on Health issues
- Interprets and promotes compliance with government legislation
- Maintains health records / documentation for all staff
- Ensures confidentiality of employee health records and information
- Maintains appropriate reporting systems
- Assists in the development of organization wide policies and procedures relating to Occupational Health and Wellness issues
- Liaises with Public Health as required
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications / experience :
- Degree / Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Nursing
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) preferred.
- Current BCLS / First Aid Certificate.
- Minimum two (2) years of recent experience in Occupational Health or Disability Management field.
- Occupational Health experience in a hospital environment preferred.
- Experience in health promotion and wellness programs
