Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) Inclusion / Resource Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective immediately until the return of the incumbent but not beyond June 30, 2025.

The assignment will be at Margaret Ma Murray Community School.

Qualifications and Experience

Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)

Committed to a co-planning model within a learning "pod" of three to four divisions

Willingness to share space and resources in a learning "pod" of three to fur divisions within a flexible learning space environment

Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level

Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students

Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills

Experience / training / knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging

Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn

Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition

Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning

Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity

Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity

Masters in Special Education or working towards

Ability to work with Elementary, and behaviour students

Ability / experience

to carry out a variety of assessment, including classroom observation,

administration and interpretation of norm- reference assessment

instruments, curriculum-based assessments, and diagnostic teaching

methods

Ability

to implement extensive Individual Education Programs (IEP's) (detailing

adaptations and modifications) in consultation with classroom teachers,

parents, students and district resource personnel

Computer related skills and the ability to incorporate ibooks into regular classroom instruction

Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques

Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff regarding curriculum, assessment, instruction and planning

Working

knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance

Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, and blended / structured writing

process

Advocacy for and empathy with students with special needs and ability to work with students experiencing learning difficulties

Experience / training / knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

Experience planning with Teachers and Education Assistants

Supportive of school planning and direction

Committed to professional development

Experience / working

knowledge of Assessment for Learning, Math Makes Sense, Criterion

Referenced Performance based assessment, Guided Reading, Power of Ten

and Literacy in Action

Ability to differentiate instruction using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to support varying learning needs

Experience / willingness to utilize technology (I-pads) to facilitate / supplement student learning

Ability / experience to support students designated with Chronic Health

Ability to support teachers within adapted classes in literacy, numeracy and science

Wide range of teaching and management strategies

Knowledge of numeracy and literacy curriculum at the elementary intermediate level

Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs

Ability / expertise to work with students either individually or in small groups or in a classroom setting

The Distinct Nature of Teaching and Learning at Margaret Ma Murray Community School

Margaret Ma Murray Community School was designed and built to facilitate a distinct learning environment. This process involved visitations to schools around the country, community consultation meetings and several design meetings with a cross-section of staff from around the district.

These conversations on learning and learning spaces helped shape the architecture of the school.

Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

Compensation

$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas

$3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952

Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance.

Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
