The facilities for student services are well equipped and offer bright and technology rich environments. CHS is seeking a Learning Strategies Coordinator to support students with learning needs and to coordinate the work of the other learning strategists.
As a Learning Strategist / Inclusive Education Teacher, you are an expert in your field. As an experienced, knowledgeable and progressive specialist, you are able to support all kinds of learners.
In particular, you are confident in supporting learners using approaches that are reflective of the way in which girls learn.
You bring innovative solutions to learning challenges experienced by students. You optimize the resources available to you.
Balanced with supporting students, you mentor teachers in understanding learning challenges experienced by the students in their classes and guide them toward strategies that ultimately support all learners.
As the Learning Resource Program Coordinator, you provide guidance and oversight to this program and support a team of Learning Strategists to be effective and current in their roles.
You provide organizational leadership to the day-to-day operations of Learning strategies and guidance to the development of the program as a whole.
You also support the whole faculty in developing their understanding and their classroom practice around learning strategies for students with specific needs.

This is a two year contract position to cover a maternity leave. Responsibilities of the Learning Strategies Coordinator : ?
Promote a collegial teaching and learning environment with and beyond the team of Learning Strategists by coordinating the learning resource program ?
Oversee the IEP process including the engagement of teachers and parents and documentation ? Oversee the Essential Learning Plan process for students and assign case managers as needed ?
Oversee concussion management ? Collaborate with the Personal Counsellors regarding students with H and R designations along with other students as needed ?
Facilitate meetings between students, parents, and Senior School teachers ? Collaborate with teachers to assist in their understanding and ability to support students with learning needs in their classes ?
Manage the Ministry provided budget for special needs students ? Support constructive engagement of parents in the curricular program ?
Oversee staffing for the after school support program to ensure daily coverage Responsibilities of a CHS Teacher : ? Provide individualized support for the academic needs of students as learners ?
Explore and identify appropriate strategies for students who require accommodation(s) to demonstrate their learning ? Create, implement, and reviews individual education plans and school based support plans ?
Facilitate the Ministry of Education adjudication process for provincial examinations and the College Board processes for Students with Disabilities ?
Communicate and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administration, and outside agencies to support student learning ?
Maintain documentation and records for individual students, ensuring confidentiality in reporting ? Provides appropriate and timely information to student advisors and parents on student progress ?
Support and faciltate, where appropriate, sessions within the Advisory and SEL programming ? Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Student Services department ?
Participate in school meetings and events, including school planning and professional development ? Create a positive and supportive culture for learning ?
Engage in the Teacher Professional Growth Plan ? Be an active and positive participant in the co-curricular program Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience : ?
Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a Special Education focus and qualifications to teach at an intermediate and senior level ?
B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria ? Experience as a Special Education Teacher at a senior school level, an asset ?
An understanding of the BC Ministry of Education Special Education policies and procedures ? Experience reading and interpreting psycho-educational assessments ?
Experience creating and implementing IEPs ? Demonstrable awareness of the learning styles of girls and young women ? Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching ?
Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice ? Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills ?
