Environmental and Cooking Educator
- Type : Contract, Part-time (10-20 hours / week), flexible hours with evenings and weekends required. The successful candidate will primarily work at the program delivery location(s) and remotely.

EcoCooks is a collaboration between Unbounded Canada Foundation and Elements Society. Together, we are on a mission to empower youth to take climate action by connecting how our food choices impact the planet.
EcoCooks Club blends inquiry-based environmental activities with tangible cooking skills to build culinary confidence and sustainable eating habits.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced leader to co-coordinate, co-facilitate and grow the EcoCooks program in Metro Vancouver.
If you are passionate about the environment and plant-based solutions, and a self-starter who solves problems with care and creativity, this role might be for you.
The Educator will primarily work at the program delivery location(s) and remotely, reports to the Metro Vancouver Coordinator of Unbounded Canada Foundation, and works collaboratively with our partners, Elements Society, and other local organizations.
Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence, as well as a criminal record check is required. Candidates who have experience working with youth, knowledge of the current climate crisis, facilitation, and / or plant-based cooking including : making substitutions;
teaching various food prep and cooking techniques to youth; and having familiarity with the Canada Food Guide and nutritional information are preferred.
Educator is :
- Certified in Foodsafe and First Aid, these can be obtained after the hiring process
- Experienced at engaging youth, facilitating education programs with an emphasis on participants exploring and discovering the content through inquiry, place-based education and other student-centred learning principles
- Has extensive knowledge of and experience with plant-based cooking and meal preparation
- Passionate about the environment and plant-based solutions, is a self-starter who solves problems with care and creativity
- Understanding of : Sustainability / environmental issues,Youth education programsPlant-based eating and cookingNon-profit work environments
- Experienced at managing projects with multiple moving parts and logistics
- Organized with time management skills, including attention to detail and long-term planning
- A strong verbal and written communicator, demonstrating personal leadership and integrity to represent EcoCooks in a professional manner
- Able to adapt quickly to changes in work with minimal supervision
- Collaborative, working effectively to share and contribute when working with a team
- Experienced with MS Office, Google Suite, Canva, and social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Able to operate and access a vehicle for purchasing and transporting equipment (to and from storage and the program delivery location), materials preparation and printing, and program delivery : Physical lifting and moving required
- Keen to create an energetic and positive learning environment for program participants and parents
Key Responsibilities include :
- Coordinate and deliver the program for youth participants with the a partner Educator
- Guide participants through engaging lesson plans that appeal to all learning types and empower youth to take personal actions towards a sustainable world
- Take photos and videos to engage audiences through social media - including making creative posts and reels.
- Coordinate the recruitment of participants, the registration process, and parent communication with the team
- Support the Coordinator to recruit, train, and manage volunteers and scheduling
- Coordinate field trips, program location, and delivery logistics with the team
- Support the team and be available to cover workshops / different roles in the event your co-workers cannot attend and no suitable replacement is found
- Support the team to grow the EcoCooks program in Metro Vancouver by seeking out community partnerships with local organizations, and working on other opportunities such as events, one-off sessions with different targeted groups, Alumni program, and summer camp options
- Work with the team to apply for funding and resources
- Work collaboratively to continually improve and update the program
- Communicating regularly with the Coordinator and other responsibilities as required
