Temporary Educational Intervenor
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is recruiting for Temporary, Educational Intervenor for Elementary and Secondary Schools.
The successful candidate will be required to work as needed on an on call basis to cover absences at schools throughout Windsor and Essex County.
Reporting to the Principal, the Intervenor will perform the following job functions :
Use the total communication approach to facilitate communication between students with deafblindness, other students and staff by providing deafblind intervenor services in and out of the classroom, adjusting to the signing, education and communication levels required
Assist deafblind students by providing information to help facilitate their participation in the visual / oral world around them
Reinforce the educational programs in collaboration with the teacher, by adapting or modifying classroom materials to meet the specialized needs of students
Implement educational support programs in conjunction with school-based personnel, occupational therapists and other professional services staff
Facilitate and encourage the development of the students’ social skills, self-esteem and independence to their full potential through established programs and techniques
Prepare reports such as daily or weekly journals; classroom materials such as booklets, flash cards, etc.
Transcribe and interline learning materials into Braille, e-text or enlarged print as required
Utilize a wide range of assistive technology as required
Assist the students to interpret the environment, to communicate with others and to develop a positive self-image
QUALIFICATIONS :
Secondary school graduate or equivalent
Successful completion of a two year post-secondary Intervenor Program at a recognized college
One year intervenor experience preferred
Proficiency in ASL including the ability to adjust to the signing, educational and communication levels
Working knowledge of Braille
Working knowledge of computers and assistive technology for students who are blind or visually impaired
Ability to work effectively as a team member in co-operation with other school personnel, parents / guardians, students and resource personnel
