We are looking for a Logistics Specialist - Material Flow Planning to plan, implement, and optimize internal material flow processes for the PowerCo SE facility in St.
Thomas. Reporting to temporarily to the CFO, you will support and contribute to the PowerCo SE logistics team to achieve the objectives of the logistics rollout project at the St. Thomas facility.
Primary Responsibilities :
Implement and localize PowerCo SE standard logistics processes in the St. Thomas facility and design optimal internal material flows (e.
g.specific loading and unloading requirements, repacking or cleanliness requirements, or waste and scrap transports) with efficiency and cost effectiveness in mind.
Coordinate logistics planning activities with both the local and central operations team at PowerCo SE, and coordinate and lead topics such as local process requirements, material flow within the St.
Thomas facility and in design meetings with the General Planner.
- Develop detailed plans for the implementation of coordination processes and material flow designs in collaboration with the local ramp-up team and PowerCo SE headquarters in Germany.
- Estimate headcount demand for ramp-up and steady-state phases for each process, and monitor staffing levels, workflows, and resources during the ramp-up phase, adjusting when necessary.
- Balance resource utilization to maximize efficiency while minimizing costs, and allocate resources effectively, including labour, equipment, and storage space.
- Work closely with production teams to align logistics plans with manufacturing schedules, implement improvements to streamline material flows and reduce lead times, and facilitate communication between logistics and production departments to address challenges and ensure synchronization.
- Identify and implement technology solutions to enhance logistics and material flow processes.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate logistics systems with other factory management systems and define requirements for IT solutions supporting the logistics processes.
- Anticipate and mitigate potential risks in material flows and logistics processes while developing contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges.
- Initiate and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance logistics planning and execution.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of logistics plans, implementation schedules, and performance metrics and provide regular reports on key logistics performance indicators.
- Implement best practices within and beyond the PowerCo SE facility in Canada and staying informed about industry trends.
- Collaborate closely with other departments within the St. Thomas facility, Volkswagen Group Canada, and PowerCo SE headquarters.
- Miscellaneous organization rollout-related tasks as required.
Qualifications
Qualifications :
- Post-Secondary Education in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent relevant work experience
- 5+ years in a related logistics planning function, ideally within a large, global organization
- In-depth, proven experience in logistics material flow planning, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in an environment of shifting priorities, timelines and occasional ambiguity
- A global mindset, with a customer driven approach and ability to build trust and relationships
- Experience in battery or battery cell logistics or handling hazardous goods would be considered an asset
- Ability to travel both within Canada and internationally up to 20%
- German language skills are considered an asset
