Summary

The Procurement Lead - In-Product Software is responsible for managing the procurement process for software products that are embedded in Ciena's products and solutions.

This includes engaging with product teams, legal team, suppliers, and subject matter experts to ensure that the software agreements meet Ciena's business, technical, and legal requirements.

The Procurement Lead - In-Product Software also oversees the compliance and relationship management aspects of the software agreements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive requests for new or amended software agreements from product teams and ensure they are entered in the supplier on-boarding and contracts management systems.
  • Engage with product teams to fully understand the scope and specifications of the software products and services, and provide guidance on how to structure the agreements.
  • Engage with appropriate subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure that software agreements comply with Ciena’s policies, protect Ciena from unacceptable risk, and meet the business objectives.

Working knowledge of the following topics is expected : Agreement scope (license type, professional services, etc.)Grant of rights (on-premise, cloud, SaaS, source code, redistribution, etc.

Business model (pricing, royalty, etc.)Payment and tax termsWarranties (coverage, duration, etc.)Escrow (deposit, trigger, release, etc.

Technical support (service level, response time, etc.)Cybersecurity (infrastructure, processes, etc.)Product security (vulnerability reporting, certification, etc.

Third party software, including open source software (tracking, management, SBOM, etc.)Insurance coverage (type, amount, etc.

Indemnification (scope, exclusions, etc.)Limitation of liability (caps, exceptions, etc.)Force majeure (definition, duration, etc.

Termination and effect of termination (off-ramp, survival, etc.)

  • Seek legal advice as required by Ciena policy and using good judgment.
  • Ensure that Ciena is set up to comply with its contractual obligations, such as royalty tracking, reporting, special obligations, and reminders.
  • Manage the on-going relationship with software suppliers and assist with any issues, audits, or disputes that may arise.
  • Manage contract renewals, expirations, and terminations for software in Ciena’s products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, contract management, or software licensing.
  • Strong knowledge of software licensing models, terms, and conditions.
  • Good understanding of issues and risks associated with embedded third-party software in commercial products.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive.

The annual pay range for this position is $93,900 - $149,900 CAD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business.

Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
