Purpose :
The Data Science and Analytics team will contribute to building a data-driven decision making culture across all lines of business with thought leadership through analytics.
The Data Science team within Tangerine Analytics supports the revenue and volume growth for each of the product business line (including lending products such as Mortgages, Lines of Credit, Credit Cards, Loans and deposits such as Savings Accounts and GICs) through providing advanced analytical pricing solutions, and influences Tangerine's strategic decisions on consumer pricing (rates / fees) and other consumer behavior initiatives.
The Data Scientist is responsible for the design and development of a suite of mathematical, statistical and predictive models to price, acquire, grow and retain Tangerine customers.
These models are used by business lines in order to optimize pricing decisions and grow customer value. The incumbent will also monitor the performance of the analytical pricing framework and to identify potential improvements.
The incumbent will also identify data acquisition opportunities.
Accountabilities :
Design and build optimization and predictive models, such as : product pricing models, product usage models, product and customer attrition models, and customer / product future value modelling.
Ensure that the Bank's investment in statistical models is maintained through the development of model performance tracking systems.
- Support product initiatives by identifying and building new models to support pricing analytics. Ensure that campaign and origination designs leverage the application of the models and are appropriate for the development of new models.
- Expand the Bank's competency in data sciences by identifying industry best practices and staying current on emerging trends in the field.
Develop a framework, processes and procedures to ensure that model development is efficient and conducted in a timely fashion.
- Identify data gaps with respect to predicting customer behavior within the overall data environment and support projects to acquire such information.
- Collaborate and ensure pricing alignment with Tangerine's Product Economics team.
Requirements & Qualifications :
- You have an analytical background (Applied Math, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science). A Masters or PhD in a STEM or STEM-related discipline would be beneficial.
- You have strong theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of statistical analysis and data science and experience with machine learning algorithms
- Experience with programming languages such as Python and SQL (Java or other programming languages would also be an asset).
- Strong knowledge of Machine learning and statistical learning algorithms.
- Familiarity with cloud compute environments and DevOps practices.
- Excellent analytical skills. Must be able to interpret and consolidate large amounts of information in actionable recommendations.
Uses sound judgment in the creation of the work plan, analysis, validation, interpretation and presentation of findings.
- Excellent knowledge of statistical model development, such as acquisition and usage models, time series analysis.
- Experience cleaning, managing and visualizing data (structured and unstructured)
- Excellent communication skills. Must be able to translate complex technical information to non-technical audience
- Strong knowledge of financial services products and features. Working knowledge of retail banking product profitability and credit risk.
