Reporting to the Manager of Forensic Mental Health, the successfulapplicant will be responsible for providing quality
nursing care to complex patient populations whose outcomes are notpredictable on the Adult, Forensic and Child &
Adolescent Mental Health units. As part of inter professionalhealth care teams, the Mental Health Nursing Resource
Team (MHNRT) Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will practice withinthe Standards of the College of Nurses of
Ontario, the philosophy of patient and family centered care, aswell as the mission, vision, values and policies of
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC).
Applicants must have the following qualifications :
Current unrestricted registration as a Registered PracticalNurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability
become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current certification in BCLS
- Recent knowledge of forensic mental health nursing in an acutecare setting
- Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Code ofCanada Part XX.1 Mental Disorder, the Mental
Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act
Knowledge of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation or asimilar recovery based model of care
In addition to the above qualifications, preference will be givento applicants who :
Have a certification, or recent continuing education in MentalHealth / Psychiatric Nursing
Applicants must have the following qualification :
- Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse withthe College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current certification in BCLS
- Recent experience in Mental Health nursing in an acute caresetting
- Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Codeof Canada Part XX.1 Mental Disorder, the Mental
Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act
Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning,implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her / his
basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized careplanning and delivery
Collaborates and provides consult to Registered PracticeNurse's (RPN) when patients assigned to the RPN
become unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected
- Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responsesand take appropriate action
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions
- Strong interprofessional and communication skills
In addition to the above qualifications, preference will be givento applicants who :
- Have a certification, or recent continuing education in MentalHealth / Psychiatric Nursing
- Knowledge of the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation or asimilar recovery based model of care
Salary Range : $36.092 to 37.049
