Responsibilities
Major responsibilities include :
- Create and construct patterns and guides as templates for metal cutting.
- Operate light machinery, including : brake presses, shears, cutting torches, and grinders.
- Layout reference points and patterns on heavy metals according to the templates / blueprints.
- Assemble, fit and weld metal sections and plates to create complete units or subunits.
- Install fabricated components in the final product.
- Preheat work pieces to render them malleable.
- Monitor quality of fabrication and production.
- Sets up and operates heavy machine tools, such as : radial drill, end mill and edge planer.
- Monitor materials usage and report on any material issues.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in fabricating compliance, practices and techniques.
- Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations, participate in identifying hazards.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents / injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
- Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics.
- Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to assess materials needed, and plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Effectively and efficiently prioritize daily work.
- Accurately complete of work orders and time cards.
- May be asked to cross train on other / all functions at facility.
- Other assigned work as required.
You Possess
- Interprovincial Red Seal or Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) tickets (minimum C ticket).
- Completion of either a 3-4 year apprenticeship or have accumulated 4+ years of experience in the trade.
- Must pass physical to ensure bonafide job requirements can be fulfilled.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Must speak, read and write in English.
- Strong safety mindset.
