Reporting to the Director, Corporate Accounting, this role is responsible for managing a team of accounting professionals, consolidating and interpreting investment business unit financial information and producing key financial statement note disclosures.

This role involves significant collaboration and coordination with the broader Corporate Finance group, the investment business unit finance teams and investment operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical accounting and analysis for financial instruments and demonstrate expertise in IFRS accounting and reporting.

Combining this experience with knowledge of financial systems, internal controls and a desire to optimize processes will make for a well-rounded applicant.

We have recently transitioned to a new ERP system Oracle Cloud - and are invested in leveraging all available tools to increase the efficiency of our reporting processes.

The person who fills this role will be a key member of the OMERS Corporate Finance team. Our ambitions are high : we aim to be the best corporate finance team in the Canadian pension industry.

Our flexible hybrid work guideline requires teams to come to the office a minimum of 3+ days per week.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for :

Leading the corporate investment accounting function, which facilitates the consolidation of investment results and reporting on associated insights;

reconciliation of data and provision of operational support across the business units; a key interface with OMERS Business Unit Finance Teams.

Reviewing financial statement note disclosures and other key internal and external reporting and ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory standards.

Researching, documenting, and proposing conclusions with respect to complex accounting issues to develop our enterprise-wide accounting policies, with particular focus on financial instruments.

Liaising with internal and external auditors for fieldwork and accounting matters relating to investment accounting.

Supporting the team in identifying ongoing system and process improvements; leveraging available tools in Oracle, Alteryx, and Excel.

Keeping abreast of technical accounting and reporting requirements in accordance with International financial reporting standards (IFRS), pension standard 4600 and other bases, as needed.

Ensuring the maintenance and continuous improvement of process documentation and strong internal controls over financial accounting and reporting.

Guiding, coaching, assessing, rewarding and developing a team of strong professional accountants to encourage personal and professional growth and development.

This role has 3 direct reports.

To succeed in this role, you have :

7+ years’ experience in reporting, accounting and control skills in a financial services environment and experience managing a team.

Post-secondary degree in business, accounting, or finance with a CPA designation.

Understanding of IFRS accounting standards particularly as they relate to investments and financial instruments, including derivatives.

Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to identify and implement new processes for operational efficiency; coupled with a strong accounting acumen.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present a clear perspective while being considerate of the audience;

and experience in documenting conclusions on technical accounting analysis.

Attention to detail when preparing and reviewing work, and an ability to see the impacts on a bigger picture.

Experience with Oracle (including ARCS), Alteryx, Power Query and Workiva would be an asset.
