About IBU

International Business University (IBU) is a new and unique teaching-focused university specializing in business education that is looking for highly talented, motivated, and qualified faculty and professionals, ready for the next level of challenge in their careers.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean, this full-time professor position is responsible for developing, preparing, and teaching courses offered by IBU, ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.

The professor is also responsible for student advising, course timetable development and coordination, analysis of student performance and curricular trends, and internal and external communications.

In addition to teaching and assessing student progress and achievement, the professor will develop a culturally competent and industry-relevant curriculum, design and update specific courses regularly, work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees, support the transfer-credit process, curriculum mapping assignments with other academic institutions, and other academic-related initiatives, including new program and curriculum development.

As part of the IBU team dedicated to program quality and growth, full-time professors will take leadership of specific projects and new program development and curriculum design, plus be active contributors to building a holistic IBU student experience.

The professor must also show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and to the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment on the IBU campuses.

He / she is expected to deliver the following range of duties :

Teaching

Teaching a minimum of four-course sessions up to six sessions per semester for three semesters (Fall, Winter and Summer) of graduate and undergraduate programs in person assigned by the Dean of IBU, the new faculty member is expected to focus on teaching the core courses in IBU’s expanding MBA program and electives in its various specializations, such as (i) Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, (ii) Global Business Management, and (iii) Financial and Management Analytics.

Such core courses include : Business Analytics, Financial Management, Organizational Behaviour : Leading in a Diverse Environment, Information Technology & Digital Transformation, Marketing & Social Media, Regulatory Environments, Ethics & Sustainability

  • Support teaching courses in the BCom programs in a related discipline.
  • Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach, and evaluation techniques.
  • Engaging industry expertise in the classroom through guest speakers, project assignments with industry, experiential learning opportunities and / or site visits.
  • Incorporating active learning strategies in online, hybrid, and in-person classes.
  • Implementing appropriate educational technology and tools in online, hybrid, and in-person classes.
  • Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.
  • Ensuring an equitable and accessible learning community.
  • Designing formative and summative assessments (alternative and authentic) in alignment with subject, program and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Evaluating student progress / achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.
  • Supervising students in completing final-year capstone projects.

Course Management and Curriculum Development

  • Consulting with Dean, IBU and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers, and students.
  • Defining course objectives and evaluating and validating these objectives.
  • Specifying and enhancing learning and teaching approaches with necessary resources for continuous improvement, etc.
  • Developing individualized instructions and multi-media presentations for innovative pedagogies, including incorporation of the latest knowledge from the industry and development of skill-based micro-credentials for integration into the existing curriculum.
  • Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.
  • Course coordination and leadership roles as assigned.

Student Academic Advising

  • Advising students on academic matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Providing detailed information on program and / or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Analyzing and reviewing transfer credit applications for acceptability

Academic Leadership

  • Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the instructors’ teaching assignments.
  • Support the transfer-credit process by providing assessments to the Registrar’s Office.
  • Support curriculum mapping process with other Academic institutions to sign pathway & articulation agreements.
  • Assume leadership of projects as assigned by the Dean for growth and quality purposes, including contributions to new program and curriculum development.
  • Participate in the building of a strong IBU student experience inside and outside the classroom environment.
  • Participating in the work of curriculum and other academic committees as requested.
  • Upholding quality assurance and supporting program accreditation with external accrediting bodies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education : PhD in Business or equivalent from an accredited institution. PhD in an area relevant to IBU’s expanded portfolio of graduate and undergraduate degree programs, such as Finance, International Business, Information Technology Management, Business and Management Analytics, etc.

will be considered as well. Candidates with a well-recognized master’s degree with professional qualifications and substantial professional experience in the field will also be considered where appropriate.

  • Working in a teaching-oriented institution, the incumbent should be a collegial, energetic, and innovative individual who has successful teaching experience at the graduate level, including the case teaching method and who communicates effectively with students both in and out of the classroom.
  • Demonstrated track records and ability to maintain currency of knowledge through scholarly and research work and / or in-depth industry engagement.

Expertise in the application of emerging digital transformation technologies in businesses, such as Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain, is considered an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise capstone projects at the graduate level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to putting the student learning experience first.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level with strong communication, leadership, and administrative skills including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, development of online material / lectures, and entering assessment results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in teaching within an outcome-based learning environment as well as familiarity with subject-level quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated experience in technology-supported teaching (e.g., hybrid, online, experiential, and computer-assisted learning) would be an asset.
  • Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others and function effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to utilize creative teaching approaches and current and emerging teaching and learning strategies to enhance student success.

Demonstrated engagement of industry in classroom delivery to emphasize theory and practice integration and deliver experiential learning opportunities.

  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technologies, including in-class media presentation systems, learning management systems, and other relevant online learning and teaching technologies to engage students in an online environment.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
